an upate on this bow from the composite thread i posted earlier this year,(,angular composite bow - horn, maple, sinew)..55" tip to tip--56#@29"..white birch bark covering, alternating bands of outside and inside bark. gold silk string.. this bow finished out really nice,,shoots well with an above average speed,,would have been even better if i had waited a couple more months before bracing, but still a good shooter..next one of these i build will be a little shorter ,maybe 52" . enjoy :) james

Man that thing looks nice. Got it bookmarked under July Laminates for BOM fun too. :)
-
cool
-
One bad looking little bow. Full draw looks awesome.
-
Sweet looking bow James.
-
thanks guys........
-
Sweet, James. That style looks like it ought to fold up in the handle. If it's too light in weight maybe you ought to give me a call? ::) ;)
-
sweet!
-
Turned out Awesome James....but I would not have expected anything less.... ;)
-
Very cool!
-
Wow that thing is incredible James, great work as usual!

A beautiful re-creation of a type of bow we seldom seen done. I wouldn't have expected that much curved recurve to straighten almost completely out once strung (I would have though the sting limbs would be more curvaceous).
Bravo! :o
-
She came out very nice James. Quite a bit different then when I saw it 2 weeks ago. Will you show a close up of the bark wrap.
-
OUTSTANDING!!!! I've been waiting to see someone make one of those!
-
Nice very nice!!Makes me jellyous,i love composite bows. They just look deadly,Congrats man!
-
Really nice. As others have said, I'd be interested in some close up pics.
How is the angled handle section constructed? Some info on the build and construction would be very interesting.

Cool bow! :o
-
That's a sweet bow, James, I like that style. Must be fast, too-the wind off the arrows leaving the bow has done sucked all the hair off your head. ;D
-
thanks all you guys, pat i will post close ups of the bark later today....ha ha ha hillbilly >:( :) cant do anything about ,turning loose and turning grey..lolol... your time will be here soon enough.............jp
-
James, it already is. I don't think I'm gonna have any left to turn gray. >:( except on my back. ;D
-
Very nice bow. How's the hand shock on such bows?
-
Wow!
-
Since Steve brought up the lack of hair, it wouldn't hurt to get a little sun, too. ;D
-
Wow...that thing is cool!! By the way, don't let those guys razz ya too bad about being older....I can see in that full draw pic that you still have your triceps muscles!!
-
Great to see something out of the ordinary.
BTW How's the chariot coming along ::)
Del
-
Excellent!!
I have often thought about building and Egyptian bow, but haven't drummed up the courage to try it yet (rookie). I would like to know more about how. Can you point us in a direction? Can you tell us more about your "should have waited longer before bracing it" comment?
The birch bark wrap in two colors is both traditional in spirit and, I imagine, a real challenge to pull off. I'm very impressed.
-
the hand shock is very minimal, used a three pc maple core with spliced in horn tips..the white birch bark is put on alternately, white is the outside of bark, the gold is the inside of the bark...birch bark can be a pain in the butt to apply....

thought it was a work of art earlier, but now it looks like it should be in a museum.
-
Yeah thanks for the closeup of the bark wraps.. Just makes your bow that much more awesome. :) Nice work!
-

-

Damn James...I thought that the Bark was just Candy Cane Wrapped around the Limbs...not all them little indiviual pieces...man that is an awesome amout of time consuming shiot....That is a one of a kind masterpiece for sure....
-
thanks all,,yes destructo,,the bark was a bit time consuming...thanks again everyone......jp
-
That is an awesome bow! Great job
-
I know you heard it already but its a work of art, how many layers of sinew and how hard is it to brace
that thing!
What an awesome bow that will inspire everyone!!
-
Reaqlly really nice, and it looks better the closer in the picture. There are some bows that I just want to hold in my hand to fully appreciate - and this is one of them.
Is the black banding paint or some kind of binding?
-
HI Robustus,
Instant Classic, that one!
How do you apply the Birch bark? Is it wrapped right around the limb, or do you use separate pieces for belly and back?
regards,
Barney
-
Awesome details, thanks for posting!
-
I missed this finished bow somehow. But newer too late to say a congrats :) Outstanding work! Ive tought U will do it whan I saw your started hornbows.... That bark cowering is perfect !
What about the others?
(Why haven't posted this bows to atarn?)
-
Nice detail pics, makes it easier to appreciate the wokmanship.
How thick is the bark?
Del
-
Excellent work! Very impressive. Jawge
-
again thanks guys, the bark is one layer thick..the white bairch tree was a downed limb from the ice storms here last year,i peeled the bark off in one large layer, and soaked it in white vinegar for for several months,it peeled very easy to single layers, and it wont dry out so fast, so you can have a longer working time..james
-
sp when are you starting the chariot??
-
Nice work!!! Glad to see an interesting bow design being made. Hey Josh also glad to hear u doing BOM brother! I just may get involved ;)
