Just finished up this Hop Hornbeam bow for My niece's 15th birthday. The bow is 66 1/4" and 50#@27". The limb width is 1 1/2" at the fades and 1/2" at the tips. The bow started with about a inch of natural deflex and virtually took no additional set. I used alcohol based stains and ten coats of Tru oil. The bow draws smooth, has no hand shock, hits hard and shoots where your looking. This is my first time cutting a shelf in and I am getting great arrow flight. I can't wait to give it to her Friday at her party....I will post some more pics then.........Oh yea.........Happy birthday Kirsten....Uncle Loves You

Yes she is a tough cookie......she shoots my bows all the time. Fifty pounds will not be a problem.

Nice bow! Sure is bright, the colors look great. HHB is a really great wood to work with, isn't it? Got your bow bookmarked for August Self Bow of the Month too! :)

OH MY!!! ;D

Thank you for the compliments Jawge and prosaffel. Hornbeam is great to work with Josh. I was checking yours out.....very nice job!!! This is my third Hornbeam. I have been peeling the bark and roughing them out while its still green......then clamping to a board a letting it dry. The stuff is like cutting through butter. Gonna try making a form a drying with R/D. There is a ton of this stuff that grows in my area and up at the hunting camp.....hard to believe its considered junk wood. I read somewhere.....? That the best bow wood....is the wood that is most availiable. I plan to make alot of Hornbeam bows

Thank You Jeff and Scott........
Yesterday, I got to give the bow to my niece and she was very very happy and very gracious. I gave her the arrows first and she was very appreciative. She made the comment that she wanted to come over and work on the bow that she started in the Spring. (She started to rough this bow out, but got to busy with softball). I told her to wait one second.....and thats when I came out with the bow. You should have seen her face...lol. The first thing that came out of her mouth was...Lets shoot!!! She shot the bow well and handled the wieght with no problem . I wanted to post some more pics with her and the bow. Thank You for viewing
