I am about to build one, maybe many for kids. Where do you get your rattan? and do you heat treat it to flip the tips :? Denny By the way nice job....I like the finish on it...

Great looking bow.

Very Nice Bow! Is it made out of one piece or is it two glued together into that shape and then tillered? :)

BUILD-A-LONG would be awesome.

On ATARN a couple years ago someone posted a French Bowyer's all rattan, Steppe style selfbow, with beautiful recurved siyahs, etc. that drew around 80# @28" if memory serves. I for one would sure like to see a how-to on making something like that - or even this beautiful kid's bow. Working with rattan has to be significantly different that working with wood.
Steilpassfänger, enlighten us please!!!

That's awesome! I hope my son doesn't see this, or he'll be telling me the one I just made isn't nearly good enough.

Awesome bow! Jawge

i agree with ken a build along would be very cool.

We used to buy rattan from 1-800- 4 bamboo... I believe it was in NY... very reasonable , and they had bamboo for bow making too ...

Nice bow Matthias :)

Matthias,
It looks like you used the rind for the back of the bow no? Torges uses the rind for the belly. Any thoughts to the advantages of doing one way or the other. I'd really like to try a sinew backed one of these in the mid 40's.

Thank you all!
@denny
I get my Rattan from Germany
@Josh
It is one little piece and I made the curves with the heatgun
@KenH
Yes, working with Rattan is not to compare with woodworking, Rattan is very light and has very long fibres.
@NTD
I used the outside of the rattan for the back of the bow. Torges is right in using the outside of the Rattan for the belly, because it is harder and better under compression. But I like the looks more the way i did it.
