Title: Lost a Hunting Partner
Post by: mullet on August 25, 2010, 06:19:20 pm
I did a lot of running around and hunting with this old girl but no more. She was geting a little long in the tooth. So  I traded her off for a new, younger one last night. I guess I'll have to start a new score board for this one, now.

Eddie, sorry to hear that, but also congrats on the new(er) one.
good  luck and hope she gets as many or more kills as the old girl did

i used to have ann '88 yj.loved that thing
hard as hell to get thme stcuk, but when you do you are definatly stuck
i used to go thru mud that was as deel as the floor pans
only time i would get stcuk is when the t-case skid plate would start snow plowing the mud and it wuold build a pile of mud right under itself
but then what would you expect after a solid 1/4mile of mud.
my uncle north of me would hold 2 mud runs a year out on his land,no to mention the 7.5 miles of trails in the woods
alwayts fun to have a toy and a place to use as it was designed for  ;D

Old Jeeps never die ...they just become somebody elses project!!  I had a 78 CJ-5 project for a few years and now it is someone elses too!!

Cool score board... from the distant picture, I thought the armadillos were rats!! :-[

sailordad...if you're not getting stuck, you're not trying hard enough!!

Sorry for your loss, congrats on the new one... Is there gonna be a "break in" period or are you gonna let this one pick up where the other one left off?   ;D

I hadn't planned on getting rid of it or buying a new one. But when it's a '93 and they gave me 10K  on the trade in and paid the balance on the wife's car off, I had to have it. The gray one is an '08 still under warranty. If the young girl is going to come close to equaling the Old Girl she'll have to come out hunting hard. ;D ;)

wow, ya.  one thing you lost is the inline 6 though.  that really sucks.  chrysler got rid of the two motors that were pretty good.  the 318 and the 4.0 inline 6..  the nose sure does look longer on the older one..

Jeff, this is my tenth Jeep. I started with a '55 Willy's Station Wagon I dropped a Corvette engine in and a Blazer transmission. Sterling, a graphics shop in town here made them for me.

Tim, the one i sold before the "Hunter" had over 680K miles. And the guy that bought it drove it to Alabama with his life's belongings tied all over it. It looked like the Beverly Hillbilly's.

Sterling, those talley's are all stuff I've run over with that Jeep. ;D

The memory of one's old jeep never fades. Here is my last one, with the right tires it would almost climb a tree.

The picture was taken in 1974 I think, first jeep and first bow kill. Several years later I went in to work a midnight shift, came home and my jeep had been stolen, never was recovered.

That sucks, Eric. I'd still be looking at every Jeep hoping to spot it one day.

Jamie, There is more room in the back seat, but the back "trunk" is still the same. They tried to sell me a 4 door for the same price ::), they are desperate to sell, it seems.

Brian, I had one of those Scouts. They were nice till they broke. All the parts were different dealers, mostly Dodge.

Yep... motor=AMC, trans=Chrysler, ignition and electric=Ford, transfercase=BorgWarner, axles= Dana..... and thats not all... the last few they built had whatever was left in the factory they could bolt on, LOL :o.... But parts are plentiful... after you figure all that out, lol

Eddie, if you'll lay off the drivin' over big critters, they'll last longer...;D Brian, I had an old '67 Scout that looked like one of the original short jeep-like Broncos. I loved that thing- it would climb a tree, toughest, goin'-est vehicle I ever owned. Like Eddie said though, it nickle and dimed me to death. It was a major ordeal to find something simple like a starter or altenator for it.

i'll never forget that herd of pigs you ran over in the old girl.  that was one of the funniest sights i'd ever seen!

I wish somebody had video'd blasting through that herd of pigs,, with steaks, ice, beer and all flying in the air. And me about crapping from almost flipping it. But that was only one hog talley on the side, the next herd yielded all but one more sticker.

Steve, she still had a lot of life left, it was just too good a deal to pass up. And guess I'm getting old, I like that Airconditioning. ;)
