Incredible first bow! The bottom limb is just a tad weak compared to the top. To keep from droping poundage you can cut an inch off the botom limb and it wil be just about right.

Eric, did you mean the top limb? I have it tillered 1/4 pos. This bow was built from a roughed out stave from Gary Davis ,I didn't take it from log to bow so I guess I cheated a little. I started right out floor tillering it. Thank you all for the compliments. I think I'm hooked on these bows,I can't see me going back to glass !

Great job and congratulations!!! A character bow will teach you a ton. You must have done your homework. My first shooter was a character osage bow and it really taught me ....thanks to the TBB 4 and this web site. A straight stave will be a piece of cake now. Osage is tuff on the body and tuff on tools. You will see other woods are a lot easier to work with....but its hard to beat the durabilty of osage. The stuff makes a great bow....Again CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME

Jon

Thank you all. This is a great site, I'm happy to be here. Marc,it doesn't shoot as well as the black locust you made for me. It's a little on the shockey side by comparison.

If it has too much handshock for ya you could always take a little more off the tips to reduce mass there.  Anything past the string grooves is just dead weight. You could probably narrow them a little more too if you wanted.  Both will reduce the handshock you feel.  Once again VERY nice first bow.   :)

Josh, I'll probably just live with this one,but I'll do differently next time ;) I wondered if the antler overlays being heavier than wood was a contributing factor? Oh well, I'll always be in pursuit of the best shooter.

Did you go to cloverdale this year ? I did not make it down there. maybe I will see you next year ! And yes It like cheating to have Gary teaching you But many have had that opertunity and failed to take it so its realy their loss not ours! And as Gary now says its all in the video ! Well I finally finished it up. I took Josh's advice and reduced the tips a bunch, it shoots much better. I thought I'd post a couple of pictures with the grip installed. Once again thank you all for your compliments. By the way, I finished the bow with Teak oil  after the modifications were made. That is a nice finish to work with.

Holy cow! That is a nicely made bow. I can't believe it is your first bow. The craftsmanship is impeccable. Plus it has a lot of character. While I was scrolling down through the side view pics, I thought "that is the straightest osage stave that I've ever seen." Then the back view came up last showing the character. Awesome. Jim

Well done, it looks fantastic, you must have done a lot of research before-hand and took your time.  I like your style!  Can't wait to see more!
