I named this my Clydesdale bow because the colors remind me of a Clydesdale for whatever reason..lol But here it is. its Bamboo backed Ipe . The grip has a piece of osage in it ,as well as a very red piece of Ipe that seems to contrast the colors well. Its 62" long and 1 3/8 wide and tapers to 3/8" nocks. its 52# @ 28"
Chocolate deer hide grip, Ipe tip overlays and bobcat fur silencers. This bow Faxes and arrow down range pretty well. I am more than satisfied with it and although i dont make very many backed bows, i think the one is my favorite so far. I still prefer my twisted sticks to these, but its fun putting one of these together every now and then.

Very nice bow, Ryan! I have a straight profile BBI in the works too and you have just inspired me to finish it. Yours is top notch! Got it bookmarked for August Backed Bow of the Month Contest. :)

Very nice bow, love the finish work. Tips/grip and such. :)

I'm sure this thing shoots as good as it looks!
-
Very nice! Do you glue a wood laminated bow up on a form the same as with a glass laminated?
-
Excellent bow there. the boo and ipe got to be quick ;D

Really like that color combination. It is a great example of that bow. Very nice.
-
That's pretty, and look's quick, too.

Real nice bow!!!!!!!! what do you use for a taper rate on the ipe? I haven't done one that short ( or that nice!!) but that is a style I could get used too I've done a 68" ipe I tapered 5\8" to 3\8" and used 1\8 boo wasn't to good just wondering what would work for a nice short bow thanks keep it comming JEFFW
-
wow!that's incredible! awesome job!
-
thanks much guys
Steve- i induce about an 1 1/2 of reflex and clamp the boo down to the ipe with a whole mess of spring clamps. enough to go up and down each limb to get a good tight glue line, so no i dont really use a form, just a clamp in the middle to induce reflex.
Jeff- i dont use any particular taper rate i cut everything out my hand and by eye and then work it down till t starts working right. kinda hard to measure too b\c i rounded the belly up as i went. looks like about 5\8 tapered to 1/2 inch or so and then a little stiffer tips.

Nice bow ! :)
Hm, but a bit short with a stiff handle for an 28" draw length when the bow is only 62" long ...

Not for a BBI...
Nice bow Ryan, I really like this one quite a bit. I really like the subtle finish that you put on...rugged good looks ;)

It doesn't care if it is an BBI or BBO or BBM or Rattan or...it depends on the Design .
Don't forget the string angle problem , because of the handle and the fades there is a bit more space, but still it is very short for that design and drawlength.
62" N/N
2* 28" = 56 " + ~ 8" (handle + fades ) = 64"
That would be short , and the tiller has to be spot on .
The drawlength on the pic is probably around 24" or 26" I guess...
But the bow is nice :)

Nice lokkin bow Ryan really like those tips and colars at the handle.Hammertime
-
beautiful bow ryan excellent tiller, and 62 " is not too short
-
thanks much guys.
acker- 62" really isnt very short. true i do draw about 26" but its tillered to 28". i have made regular unbacked selfbows 54- 58 with no problems and almost all my bows have been rigid handle bows. I'd say probably 75 out of the 77 bows i have made have been rigid mid-sections. 62" bows are probably my most common build for a 28" draw.
hammertime- i have to admit as much as i like the colors in the grip, it was sort of an accident picking the red ipe for the grip. i realized the color difference while i was glueing and wondered if it would look silly. but i like it..lol But something about osage and ipe that just go together well in my opinion
-
A great looking bow, very sharp, thats the way you put a bow together!
-
Nice bow! If the string breaks while you're out hunting, then you can use it as a javelin ;D
-
Looks like a winner to me...
-
Another example of why this is the place to be. Is it me or has the level of craftsmanship gone up? That is a beautiful bow.

Bow of the month ;)

Looks like it will make meat.

I saw the name of your bow expecting to see a large bow. I think you should re name the bow to have a beautiful name lol. Nice job.
