new hear but im a long time reader of the mag. have made several backed bows and i build and design leverlimb compounds but i have seen and always wanted to build a bow like the one on the fromt of the new sept. issue can anyone shed some light on these bows as far as length, profiles, type and design

anyone out there have anything on this type of bow even the type so i can research it

It should get you started in the right direction. It's the "Ishi" bow. If you do a search for it on oogle you should find references to Ishi's favorite hunting bow.
If that doesn't help, send a message to blacktail and he can direct you further (he's the man on the cover).

That bow was made by John, "Blacktail", on this site. It is a NW Pacific Coast type bow. Maybe John or some of the other guy's on here that have built some museum quality examples will weigh in.

much thanks guy i will have to get with him for length and width of the bow as i am looking to do one laminated with bamboo and bamboo backed

hey bigfish,i don't if you have the tbb 4..if you do its on page 287 bow A...its one of ishi's bows...i didn't do to the T..but,it was close...i had a discussion with prof about it...maybe he saved the topic and could send it to you...i deleted mine..if not i could do it again...john

hows this,very similar to Ishis bow
i believe he has actually from the Yahi
this is a Yana indian bow.i was told by the museum curator it was a bow from a "relative" tribe of his.

That's a cool bow in its on right sailordad, but that's a very different design than the one John has. Interesting...

John did say he didnt follow it to a "t"
i would bet this is closer to Ishis bow
like i said it is a Yana bow,which was a reltive tribe(just a differant clan of the same tribe) of tha Yahi(from what i was told by the curator)
either way its old and sweet

profsaffel, yup thats almost identical to the bow i posted the pic of
i believe its gaines some reflex since it was made due to the layers(s) of sinew
