60" shorty pull 50 @22". I need 50#@26 min. I can reduce the sides a little more along with the handle. I don't want to flatten any more. Also too much set. I haven't braced fully yet. Can heat and flip the tips i bit without ruining the bow?
Any help is appreciated

Seeing how your tips are over 1" thick and they don't bend so much I'd say if you narrow them to 3/8" from the last 6-8" you'd pick up a lot of speed.

thanks for your input. would I be narrowing to 3/8 or taking off another 3/8 to less than 3/4 at the tips. 3/8 seems pretty narrow.

Narrow the tips to a final width of 3/8. This width will have much less mass and the bow will shoot faster. So as ryoon mentioned, taper your limbs down from about 8" from the tips .
tiller looks like its gettin there, what wood are you using?

I'm using oak from a small tree that had to go. I would have used a larger piece but there was to much twist.

any comments on the "set"? I'd love to give it a little recurve.

There is not much you can do about the set now. It was caused by your limbs working too much near the handle. I doubt you will gain any performance by recurving the tips at this point as that will will result in even more set in the inner limbs cancelling out any gains.

How much set did it take, tgr? It looks like most of the bending is taking place just before mid limb. I think your non bending handle area is too large. Looks like about 10 inches is not bending at all. On relatively short bows I try to get the handle area bending or at least make a shorter non bending handle. I wouldn't reflex it at this point especially since you've backed it It probably wouldn't hold anyway. Jawge

THe actual handle is only 5 ". I guess it's still too stiff at the fades. I'll take some more off. I reduced the tips to about 3/8 and I'm about 50@ 24". I'll just keep working it.
THanks

When you finished scraping, put it in about 1" reflex (more if you brave and less if you scared) and heat treat the bow. Se what happends after that with the draweight and stringfollow. Just my thoughts..
