I made this bow for an artist living on the Pine Ridge reservation. He asked me for a complete set of Sioux or Cheyenne archery tackle. I had Rocky MT juniper ready to work. Juniper was said to be the #1 wood of the Cheyenne until discovering osage dropped in a battle with the Kiowa, before they made peace. So Cheyenne it was. 48" fairly rigid handle and tips. 3 layers of elk sinew and wrapped through the center. Both handle and tips narrowed. 23-23.5" draw, about 54# The arrows are oiser dogwood with the correct spine for this bow.
Cast- 27.2 gram mock orange arrow 165 yards. The heavy dogwood arrows 138 yards.
I was happy this bow went to someone who would be shooting it from horseback. His brother in law was big into a horseback archery society up there.
Thanks for looking

That is really cool. I like it alot.
-
Nice, probably just like the ones used to rub out Longhair.

Ha! right Grunt. Thanks. One more thing, string is 2ply deer backstrap sinew. I used leg sinew for strings for a long time cuz back sinew was so expensive. Till I realized you can make a backstrap sinew string in a little over an hour instead of 3+ for a good leg sinew string

That is a sweet bow. I really like the plains Indian style bow. Good job.

I love this bow, good job. Im about finished with mine too.Did you make your own trade points?
-
Thanks Cesar, and yes I make my points from barrel hoops, so not really trade points. More reproduction iron points.
-
Sweet stick. Killer arrows too.

Exactly!
Really nice set, very authentic looking, and I'm sure it really shoots good! It'll be a front runner on the next BOM, I'm positive of that!

Nice bow, I really like those arrows.

Awesome, I think you nailed it for authenticity and the perfect design for juniper. Sinew backed juniper makes for a fun shotting short bow.. Great job, Keenan

Thanks. Don't remember the exact length of the feathers. Here is a closer look at the points
