Title: Wife's Bow
Post by: Josh on October 28, 2010, 10:27:56 pm
IT'S NOT PURPLE, IT'S OXBLOOD.  (LOL just kidding Nate)   ;)

It's actually just purple tissue paper used to wrap gifts.  My wife wanted a bow so she could learn to shoot and she wanted it to look like a girl's bow so this is what I came up with.
It is Osage Orange and 63" NtN and 30 Lbs @ 26".  6 coats of tru oil and two coats of satin poly.  It was hard to glue the tissue paper down on the bow--you have to make sure the tissue paper is straight because once it touches the glue, it's gonna rip if you try and adjust it too much.  I just kinda pushed all the air out and left it textured which gives it a little more character I think.  I also incorporated  a different design on the handle wrap than I usually do.  The arrow pass is Purpleheart and I made it a little extra wide to accomodate for her not used to shooting yet.  I got her to do the full draw but I still haven't taught her about anchoring and drawing yet.  Whaddaya think?  Thanks for looking!  :)

Thanks Nate and Ken!  This might be my last one for awhile, I am going Tuesday to meet with my surgeon to schedule my surgery.  I am aiming for the second week of November but that is up to him when it happens really.  Glad you guys like it.  :)

Thanks David and Frank!

Thanks for the compliment and the idea with the tissue paper Pat!  It worked better than I hoped it would!  ..my wife's real name is Amy but I have been calling her "Kitten" for the past 9 or 10 years or so... She says I only call her "Amy" when I am mad at her, LOL.  :)

Thanks Jeff, amberb57, and Pappy! I remember seeing a bow from you that has this same type of handle Pappy--it feels really comfortable in the hand, now I need to make me a left handed version for me.  :)

Thanks a bunch, Jawge!

Thanks Hunter255!

Thanks Marc! I hope I can get her at least halfway interested in archery so I can be allowed more time with it and also have an awesome person to share this part of my life with. :)

Thanks Del and Thwackaddict!!

Thanks Mike!  I know the surgery will probably go fine but I am still a little nervous about it and I am really bummed about not being able to shoot or build for a few months... Thanks alot for the prayers my friend.  :)

Sweet bow, that tissue paper looks pretty cool actually.  I was a little skeptical when I first hear the idea, but I think I might have to try it.  And there's nothing wrong with purple, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

I'm also thinking of building a bow for my girlfriend.  She has no interest in archery but maybe she just needs to try...

Hope all goes well with your surgery and you have a speedy recovery!

Thanks for the nice compliment and good wishes Cameroo!  My wife doesn't really care for archery but I hope to change that with this bow.  Maybe I can get her hooked.   :)

Josh...my Wife don't care for Archery either...and there is no changing Her either...so I got Her into Pistols...and She can shoot as good...maybe a bit better than I can....She enjoys the Guns...and She enjoys going with Me Hunting...She Spots them and I shoot Em!

that's cool you can get her to go hunting with you anyway, Mike.  Mine thinks I am killing Bambi in the woods or something.. She ate 3 bowls of the deer chili I made this weekend though.  ???

Nice Bow Josh. If you two have been together that long there's a good chance the "favors" have already stoped....lol.

Good luck with your surgery.... ;D

Josh god luck on your surgery
im sure yo will do just fine and be back at making and shooting bows in no time

as far as getting the wife hunting
first get her shooting, the hunting will come after that

mine had never even held a gun or bow untill we got together
i got her into guns first, after a year she was shooting better than me.
then i got her into bows, she cant shoot these beter than me  ;) ,
now shes been hunting turkeys in the spring with me for 5 years now
but she refuses to hunt in the fall, too cold for her shes says
give me a few more years and she'll be out there in the fall to.
just give her time and she will come around i bet
they like to think they change us,but i think we change them more than they do us  ;D (ya right )

the handle on that looks almost exactly like the handle on the bow that i was gifted from Pappy
very comfortable to hold

once again, best wishes with the up and coming surgery
you will be in my and the wifes thoughts and we will pray to the gods you have a fast a healthy recovery

getting any of them "favors" yet  ;)
