I used a rifle to do it...and don't feel a bit guilty about it >:D
I've kept up with this buck for 3 years now, and decided this year I'd kill him if I got the chance.
I keep as many as 6 cameras up in the area I killed him in and would get lots of pictures of him. But from around mid August until late winter, I'd NEVER get any of him in day light hours. He'd often just vanish for as long as 2 months ???
Saturday night he crossed the road in from of me and my wife, not 500 yards from my stand. ;D I had a gut feeling the next morning was gonna be good.
The next morning it was raining so I decided to hunt in a box blind on the opposite end of the farm. After about an hour of sitting in that blind, a little voice in my head kept telling me I was in the wrong stand. I finally gave in and moved to the other side of the farm...The same area I saw this buck run into the night before. I climber into my tripod stand and within 3 minutes he stepped out of the thicket right in front of me ;D THAT...was a mistake!
Not a bow kill, but as much of a challenge for me as any deer I've ever hunted...no matter the weapon.
Only 6 points, but dressed out at 191 lbs.
BTW...I called him "Boo" because his antlers kinda reminds me of a Caribou.

Congratulations on taking the buck. That looks like a good one to get out of the herd. There should be plenty of venison in your freezer for a while.

Shannon, I see why ya call him boo what a unique rack, I have no trouble with the rifle but what is a young man such as yourself doin with that 4 wheeler? ;D Your going to end up all spindly legged with popeye arms :o Congradulations Later Bob

Big old deer! A/Ho Pokie
-
As far as what a man makes the meat with, well, whatever gets the coon. That looks to be a fine animal. Congrat's !
?'s....How big is your farm ? You running a quality program on the deer there ? Almost 200 lbs. sounds like well fed critters. ' Frank

Way to go Shannon....nice Buck....and who gives a rats ass how you filled the freezer...got no use in Bone Collectors.....but I love Carnivorous Bipedal Hunting Machines..... >:D
-
Congratulations Shannon, fine buck indeed!
-
Thanks guys. I'm very happy with him.
Bob, that's not laziness...I like to think it's intelligent use of equipment ;D
Mike, I like the way you think!
Sparrow, I have a couple hundred acres on that farm to hunt. No "program" just enough restraint to not shoot any bucks unless they're "ripe" ;D As far as the weight...it's farm country so they don't go hungry.

beauty, nice set of stickers on that head. main beams have a nice curve to em. theyd be good to use for indirect percussion bubba. =)
-
Nice, I remember you sending me pictures of that one a coupe years ago. How old do think this deer was?
-
Pretty sure he was 5.5 yrs. I know for certain he was at least 4.5
-
Yeah They get that forkhorn gene and never grow nothing else. I saw a muley buck today that was a forky, he must have had a 26-27 inch spread on him, had that gray face of an old guy on him. He was too far for a good picture and my camera was in my pack.So..No pic. The rut is on here and all the bucks are stupid. Got some good turkey pictures though ' Frank

Nice one Shannon! Meat in the Freezer, is meat in the Freezer! ;) Bow, gun, spear, atlatal, rock, club, fists, car, Eddie's jeep, etc. ;D ;D ;D That is a freezer full for sure. Now where are you going to put the Wife's frozen pie crusts, after you make room for this big boy?!! ::) ::) ;D

Are you going to do a shoulder mount or a euro?

Ryan, I'll probably do a shoulder mount. You know...since I used to be a taxidermist ;D
