geeked - nerdy excitement; enthusiasm; anticipation; looking forward [to an upcoming event]. Well, you get the picture.
I haven't been to the Rendezvous in a few years. However, there will be bow making (mostly osage selfbow) demonstrations including steaming, applying snakeskins, sinew backing, and tillering to name a few. Anyone is invited/encouraged to pull up a bench and create wood shavings.
A course will be set up. They don't score however, on this one. No pressure, it's just for fun! The only hitch is that you must shoot a primitive type bow. No fiberglass or wheelie bows. There will likely be flint knappers & buckskins. In the past we've seen blacksmiths and atlatls. Some people trade some of their handcrafted items. Of course, there's always plenty of campfires to visit. The campgrounds are a nice escape from the hustle of modern day civilization. A great place to bring or escape the family!

Lee, some of the Michigan flintknappers are showing up early Sat morning and will be knapping all day and into Sunday. I will be there all day friday checking things out and then will set up with the knappers tyo continue my knapping lessons.
What color B-50 you looking for? I have three spools of red I am going to get rid of. Make sure you stop by and introduce yourself.
I also was wondering if they allow blanket sales and if so what days.

JEB: I missed the last few years, but they've always welcomed blanket sales. I'm bringing a few items myself. I will be doing bow building instruction & demonstrations with my good friend Marty. We'll have a canopy set up. I am arriving tonight (Thursday evening).
Lee: I am bringing my 11 year old. We'll have to hook them up. Kids always have fun at Marshall. I've heard that there haven't been many vendors in the recent past. I'll have string with me, not so much to sell but needed for making bowstrings for the bows that will be made this weekend. I'll have string, if you need to make one.
Looking like it might clear up for the weekend! Was considering ark building.
-
I am so pumped up !!
I'm almost there !
just a couple more things to do first :(
I am not sure if there will be a vendor there with string but many of us will have B50 on hand if its needed ! thats one of the good things about these folks we're all family so just get there we take care of one another!!
We also do a lot of swaping amongst ourselfs
Thank you to PA for this forum !! WOW over 1000 veiws WOW !! , maybe our family is a growing again
See ya all there !!

Thanks JEB (Jon) I'd probably buy a spool of red since I have none and red is better than yarn ;)
I'll hopefully roll in sometime early afternoon on Sat and stay and long as I can...looking forward to meeting you folks.
Safe travels~

I had a great time visiting on Saturday everyone. The wife and I have decided to make this an all weekend event next year. Plus we plan to have made our own bows by then. Sorry I did not get a chance to meet most of you. I did have a great conversation with John from Bronze Bow Archery. My wife and I only shot the small course, and went to the DNR seminar. When the seminar ended we had planned to shoot the large course, but that's when the rain came. We tried to wait it out, but it seemed like it would never stop so we left. I felt a little down about this, as I was looking fowrard to the course. Can't wait until next year.

This was my first at Marshall and hopefully not my last. Even with the questionable weather everyone had a good time.
Buckeye guy, can you get ahold of me. I loaned a book out to a vendor and forgot to get it back before I took off on Saturday.
-
No problem !!
You know these folks are family !
I forgot a chair one time when I came back the next year it was sitting right where I left it
Norm had taken it home kept it safe and returned it the next year ,as he was not sure who it belongend to!
What a great bunch of folks !!!
-
Guy, sorry I missed you on Saturday. Nicole and I were only there for a few hours until the rain came. I am still bummed about missing out on the big course. I think bow building is a new calling for me, once I saw how much fun everyone was having. We had a great time and plan on making it all weekend next year ;D. John Cooper has volunteered to come to the MTB Jamboree in Grayling this year for a bow building demo. Should be fun and I hope to take part in the instruction.
