I got started today. Blade is being made from a knife edge nicholson file. I have it shaped up pretty close to what I need. The blade is 3 1/4" long. I plan to set the tang with epoxy into a antler handle. I think that I am going to make some sort of guard but nothing big because this is supposed to be a neck knife. I did not anneal the blade since I did not have to take off much material. I have tempered it once at 400 degrees for 2 hours plan to temper it 2 more times. I will post some more pics soon.

Wow, Bettle...you are going whole hog for this primitive thing! How long before you start cooking and knocking rocks? Gonna see you running around in here in half tanned skins and crying out "Ooga booga! before long!"
Keep up the good work!

Well I am fitting the blade to the handle now.

Very cool more more.

Well that's cool! The way that antler is shaped I'd say you got your little finger guard already done.
Nice.

Yeah the handle was part of a main beam the finger worked out well. It was a tine base. I did the brass rod test on the bade. It did not bend, and it did not chip. I would say it is just rite.

Well here is the sheath. I think it turned out pretty good. It is from the tail of the gator.
