well i finally got my full draw pics so i could show it off! this hickory bow is make from billets and has one big knot growth on the lower limb. i named this bow "prince charming" (thanks Justin :D ) because of the wart like knot. this bow is 66 1/2" long and pulls 52#@28" now that is dry. i used tung oil as a finish to bring out the grain of the wood. the handle is a 4" handle because of the takedown sleeves. it is 1 7/8" wide at the fades and narrows to 1/2" nocks. the bow is made from sister billets that were both snakey and have plenty of twist back and forth. when i glued the sleeves on i made the handle an almost center shooting handle. this bow shoot awesome. my best shooting bow so far. very smooth draw, no stack and a sweet release. the lower limb is 1/8" stronger than the top and the tiller is right on. the pics show a little twist but ill put up a shot of the bow on the tiller stick to show the sweet arc. the handle is a chocolate leather wrapped with hemp. let me know what you guys think, thanks for looking, -jesse

That's nice.
Did you epoxy a brass sleeve on both limbs or brass on one and just the steel handle on the other?
I'm working on an osage takedown and I used the dual brass sleeves then epoxied the handle on to the upper limb.
I don't know if the upper brass sleeve is necessary other than for added weight in the handle area.
-
very nice....well maybe half draw And fulldraw??

Don't they use the brass inner sleeve and steel outer sleeve so they don't freeze up when there is a temperature change?
-
Nice job! Jawge

full draw.... sorry for the wait, my computer was in the mood to shut itself down 5 times last night so i went to bed. ;D -jesse

a fine weapon. though the upper limb seems to be a bit stiff on the outer part, but it's hard to say for sure cause that sure is one cranky stave.
How about a full unbraced sideprofile?
I want to apologise, for the fact that I do not say "cool, nice!, wonderfull, gnarly, great" and so on for every bow. it's just not in the Finnish customs, and feels somewhat obligatory round here.. so don't hate me, hate my silent culture if you will :D it's just a part of me.
-
T. Sawyer: I have seen them with the steel handle epoxied directly on to the stave or the steel handle epoxied on to a brass sleeve which has been epoxied on to the stave.
I've never really understood why some setups have a brass sleeve epoxied to the upper limb if the steel handle is going there anyway. It seems if the upper limb is going to have the steel handle just fit it and epoxy it to the stave.

Yes, indeedy. The full draw just got you signed up for May Self Bow of the Month. Very nice work, here.

Good job on the bow, turned out nice! Great lookin' country in the background! :)

thanks everyone for all the nice comments! finnish native, it looks like extra bend in the upper on the top pic because im canting the bow in the pic. ive got to get a fulldraw on the tiller stick for you guys. its so hard to get a perfect side picture. Lost arra, the sleeves i used had a 2" brass sleeve, and a 4" steel sleeve with another 2" brass permanently fixed in it for the other brass sleeve to but to. for both limbs you still only need to fit the limb only 2" in. for everyone sayin they want to try one, i recomend it! ;D not as hard to fit as you think. they really are a unique bow in a collection. it deffinatly wont be my last takedown. i already feel the urge to make another one if i can come up with some extra time ;) gregB, our farm is 40 acres and is home to 5 hereford cows. really nice area and holds all kinds of critters. -jesse

thanks frank and jawge. i knew when i split this set of billets and saw the wavy grain i had to make a bow with them. i dont see alot of wavy grained hickory so i had to make a special bow with them. -jesse
