Title: Osage Flatbow.
Post by: swamp yeti on January 08, 2011, 04:28:23 pm
This is a bow I made a year ago.The stave had 8 growth rings per inch. After I shaped the bow out I put on a caul and put 3 inches of reflex on it,after it was tillered out and finished and shot numerous times it lost the reflex but has no string set.The bow is 66 inches tip tp tip,a inch and a half wide and narrows down to a half inch at the tips. The bow is 55#@26 inches. It is a fast shooter.

An excellent looking bow.  With that additional length, I'd bet that bow could last a VERY long time!  Nice one SY!

That bow is the perfect illustration of a plain jane clasic flatbow.  When the stave is that plain, there is no way to hide imperfections in tiller, design, or execution....ya get it right or you hide it!  Any flaw would stand out like Andre the Giant in a lime green tutu.

Sweet work, well done.

As good as it gets I would say!
The photorapher would need some more practice...  ;D ;D ;D ...just kidding; we see all we need to see, but I just love detailed bow pics, and the better the bow, the more I like deatils...

What a fine looking bow! Can you tell me what the width of the handle area is? Thanks, David

David without the handlewrap, the width is 7/8 of an inch and height an inch and a quater.

There is nothing better than a well crafted fine shooting osage longbow. Over time they become even better taking on a type of personality. Well done.

Swamp Yeti, You have already received so many well deserved accolades that there isn't much left to say, except, that you have splendedly executed all of the basic elements of the flatbow.  Beautiful piece of work!!!
