Title: Real Texas Points from My Collection
Post by: JackCrafty on January 25, 2011, 01:13:38 pm
Here's a sample of arrowheads and projectile points from my personal collection.  I'm posting these to give you guys an idea of the workmanship on some of the real points.

All the points in these pictures are broken.  Sometimes the broken ones can give you more information than a completed point!  In any case, the complete G10's are way out of my price range.   ;D

This one is a Dalton, I believe.  Looks like it was broken after impact.  Notice the perfect cross section and tiny serrations.  The base edges are ground and feel smooth.  I've tried to grind the bases on a couple points and they don't feel as smooth as this one.  There must be some sort of trick to it...  maybe they finished off with a very fine "grit" stone or a leather strop with fine rock dust.

This next one looks like a Neo-Archaic knife or preform.  It was probably broken during manufacture.  Note the thin cross section and wide flake scars!

This one is a Caracara.  Note the thinness and fine serrations.

This one is a Sabinal.  Note the curvature and the tiny serrations on the delicate barb.  The base is broken.
