Will a bamboo backing work if it is thinned on both sides - or will it just lift a splinter at the back? I have seen in TBB where they advise making bamboo bows with the and tillering the back (the inner side of the bamboo) so was wondering whether this would work?

I made an all bamboo bow. I sanded the nodes off on the belly side piece, but was advised to not touch the nodes on the backing strip. to be honest, I'm not sure why, but it worked and the bow shoots great. Good luck.

The strength of a bamboo backing is in the power fibers just at and under the outside surface. If you remove those power fibers the boo becomes weaker and could easily lift a splinter.
