ok, so i picked up a big ole box full of old poc shafts(bought in 1967 according to the invoice the fella had from when he bought em)
spined 50-60# sorta army green.
was wondering if any ya'll had a notion what weight reduction, if any, would happen when sanding off the paint to bare wood?
or if, after cresting, staining and sealing they would end up the same anyways?
-
Is it an arrow box with matched arrows in it. If so they are probably more valuable as a set than as arrows to shoot. Goty any pics so we can see?
-
Enough sanding to remove the current finish would most definitely change the spine of the shaft. You might try a 'paint stripper' chemical but I agree with Pat. Worth more as is.
-
I've noticed up to 40 grains of difference after sanding arrows smooth, depending on the length and wood type. The heavier and longer the wood, the greater the difference.

picked up 150 of em in a big old box they were shipped in. 50-60# is what the invoice read. will take some pix tonite and post. thanks

They are 50#to60# but that is when they are cut to 28". You can suntract 5# per inch for anything over 28" so the spine will be lower.

thanks for the info-collectable or not, im gonna build me some arrows outta some of these puppies. have a dozen already sanded down. took abut 2 or 3 mins a shaft. and have another dozen crested and ready for fletching. gonna pick up some orange and orange barred(for a dozen i'm leaving green) next week. so cutting em to 30"(they are 32") will bring em to 40-50#? which is right where i'd want em. thanks again!

Start out with them full length and reduce the length as needed.

would love to see pics of the green/orange arrows when done........... :)

yeah, i traded a few of these shafts for some things i needed, but otherwise, just gonna keep making arrows outta em.
made a few dozen already. mostly sanded the paint off.
can't have too many shafts....

That's a nice haul of shafts there!! I believe the term you use is "you lucked out there!"...? :D

They look even better than I expected, Excellent color combo :) It's amazing how easily arrows seem to blend in and hide from the archer, those I believe will stand out !!!!!
