Title: Sealer and sinew compatability.... which sealer over sinew backed bow?
Post by: 1776J on February 21, 2011, 10:16:23 pm
I had read a few of good things about using polyurethane on bows to weatherproof them for hunting.
My question is,....
Who's had good experiences with sealers/coatings over sinew?  I was going to stain the bow and seal it, but wanted to figure things out first.

If I did choose to go with polyurethane, is there any reaction to the hide glue that will occur? Will it be compatable or??....

Thanks fellas.

I've used epoxies, truoil, and polys over sinew with no ill effects.

I couldn't imagine there being one,... but I wasn't sure if any sort of poly would badly interact with natural hide glue or anything!
THanks Tim...

Well since sinew/hide glue are made up of natural proteins and common finishes are not, then they shouldn't react? ;)
