here is a bow I have been working on for a while. this stave had lots of humps and bumps but no knots. it was a challenge working the uneven wood it made it hard to tiller, but I am happy with the results. the bow turned out to be 65" nock to nock, 60# @ 28" made in the american longbow style. 1 1/2" at fades tapering to 7/16" at tips. I flipped the tips some to keep from getting too much set. the tip overlays are ebony, and the handle is beaver tail, I finished the bow with tongue oil. I guess its the bumps that give us character ;D

Very nice job on that bottom limb!
-
the bottom limb was my problem child. there is a spot about mid limb where the back dips in about 1/4". was really worried about a hinge developing there. but I left the belly more proud there and it all worked out.
-
Dave that is absolutely a sweet looking bow! Love the dips and dives in the sap wood, and the tips and tiller look awesome. Looks like we will have three very similar gnarly yew bows at the rendezvous ;D Congratulations.
-
Sweet little bow! That bottom limb looks like a ribbon blowing in the wind. 8)
I wished I could work with yew,but it definitely doesn't jive with my senses! :'(
-
WOW DAVE...that is great work....i have to agree with pat b...Chet would be very proud of your work...cant wait to see it at the gathering....john

Holy smokes those curves on the one limb look cool. Nice work that white and golden brown are always nice to see.
-
Simply gorgous is all I can say. The whoop de doos are amazing. I have a nice piece of yew I traded for that I am looking forward to working on. The contrast is really stunning. Danny

I keep coming back to look at this beauty. I can't wait to see all three of these girls together at the Gathering!
-
gordon, it sounds like a "twisted sister reunion" ;D
-
I personally feel those sister bows are by far some of my most favorite bows I've had the honor of seeing on this site. If I could one day build bows of that quality out of challenging wood like these I'd had achieved one of my personal goals. Beautiful work Gentlemen.
-
That is a beautiful bow. I have gotten to work with Yew just a couple of times but truly love working with that wood. Thanks for sharing.
-
Very nice ! Everytime I see a yew bow,I want to load up the saw and head for the coast.(Maybe this summer.) Beautiful work ' Frank

those roller coaster backs are a challenge but you rode that baby out, throw up your hands cause that is a screamer.
-
What a fine bow. I hope to one day hunt with one like this. I am sure Chet would say "well done".
-
Very nice! Love the rollercoasters in bottom limb. Bookmarked for Feb Self BOM contest. :)
-
Very nice bow; lower limb looks really special!
-
thans guys for the kind words. I shot this bow a lot yesterday and was really impressed with the speed. I am still kinda soft after my winter layoff from shooting much so I need to work into the weight. no sign of any problem areas and it hasnt taken any more set. cant ask for more than that. now I have to get busy on the bowtrade bow, just need to decide on yew or juniper.
-
Definitely a very nice bow
-
thank you marc
-
Nice job on that. I'm sure it wasn't easy but the final product is awesome. Nice finishing job too.
