Title: Wormy Osage Bow
Post by: okie64 on March 03, 2011, 03:50:36 pm
I finished this one a few days ago. Its 70"ttt and pulls 50# at 28". This is the third bow from this  tree. The stump is at the bottom of the pics. Some kind of worms got a hold of this one and I had to chase rings pretty deep to get below them. Only wormholes left are in the handle. Thanks for lookin.

Those are very nice bows.  The borers I fight with are a little different than that, less of them but a little larger.  I'm sorry you have them, they are a pain.  Bug killer on the bark is what works for me, but I've still got a lot of older wood with holes in it.  I like the borer holes in the handle idea, very distinctive.

Oh, those are fantastic! And the wormholes on the handle add some character... a real special bow.

Yeah...nice bow. I hate those little buggers boring into the wood. Thats why if I cut some real nice stuff, I debark it asap so I don't have any worries with bugs. Looks like there may be a few more trees in that there woodlot worth cutting too. Good job.   Danny

Thanks for all the nice compliments guys.

Del, besides November this is my favorite time of year to get out in the woods, before everything gets all green and itchy.

Sidewinder, these woods are only about 1/2 mile from my house and yes there is plenty of good bow wood in there. Its my deer huntin spot too, so I "try" to stay out of there unless I'm huntin.
