Is it possible to make dry sinew softer?
Can it be "tanned or something" so that it is not so stiff and hard when dry?
I am making a War Club for my supervisor at work. The plan is to put a wrist strap on the end of the handle.
Sinew is all I have to make the strap from. Would like it if the strap was a good bit softer than one made normal sinew.
Thanks

Oil (like neatsfoot) will make it feel softer. If you soak it in oil (then squeeze out the excess) it will not harden as much.
If I were you I would buy a small chamois at wally world, cut it into lace, braid it into cordage, and make the strap out of that. There's nothing softer and it's all natural.

I would also like to make a warclub for my boss. I am not sure he would notice how hard the handle wrap is when I "give" it to him ;)

You guys are nuts. ;D Thanks for the oil idea Patrick.
Actually my supervisor and I are good friends. Dont get me wrong he is smarter than I am, much better edumacated, works far harder that I do ::) and is much better at dealing with pissed off customers that I am. If I got this figured right this is why HE is the boss.
A few months back he walked into my office toating one of those chatilogs that have all sorts of cheap "outdoor" sfuff in them. You have all seen them. He set down and told me that his birthday was comming up and he wanted a War Club.
His wife suggested that he buy one out of this catolog. He told his wife "no, I want a "real" club if I can get one. David Key can make anything. I will get him to make me a club."
The club is all "caveman" There are no modern materials in it al all. None. It is very strong.
I have a wrist strap and a few decarations to go but the structure of the club is finished. His birthday is the 17th.
I will post some pix of the club before I give it to him.
