Hello all,
I am a newbie to the site and to bow building. I have never made a selfbow, but am very interested in building one. I have read traditional bowyer's bible 1 and 2 and own Gary Davis' Rattlestick DVD. I was thinking of starting with a bow kit to get my feet wet. I have heard that Pine Hollow sells kits. Anyone have any experience with the products from Pine Hollow Longbows by Mike Yancy?
Thank you for your time.

Got some stuff from him while at Pappy's,you won't find better.

I agree. Mike and Pine Hollow are top notch!
What kind of kit are you looking for? Ever consider making a bow from scratch? Lots of experience here on PA to get you from start to finish!

I just ordered some hickory backing from Mike at Pine Hollow. Perfect. Couldn't be happier. Order from Mike with confidence.
-
I was thinking of either the osage or flatbow kit
-
Pine Hollow is top notch, Mike is a great guy to deal with.
-
I'd recommend him from my purchases.

I haven't tried the kits but everything else has been supurb. I expect that you will be pleased. You might consider picking some folks' brains on here before ordering a kit though. If you're gonna mess something up, it might be better to mess up some cheap/free wood before messing up a kit. Or, maybe, getting the kit will allow you to keep from messing something up in the first place. I dunno; just something to think about. Pine Hollow is great though, either way.

I agree with Buckeye Guy. I'm a newbie as well and I've built 2 great shooting osage bows from Gary's blanks.

I've never bought a kit from Pine Hollow, but have bought plenty of other necessities. ;D. It is a great company to deal with and would highly recommend doing business with them. I'm sure there kits would be a great start.

Anyone who is as crazy about antelope as Mike Yancy is can't be all bad. I got a prime hickory stave from him over a year ago and since it was so perfect I have been reluctant to really tear into it! I'm too used to stuff with character, knots, twist, etc.

Never bought staves from Mike or Gary but know them both very well, and also know there stuff is top notch and great folks to deal with,Or like Pat said, you can get plenty of help here to do it on your own. :) Jawges has a good site and we are always here for your questions.Enjoy. :)

I've only bought staves from Mike, but they were nice. Can't complain at all.

I have purchased several Osage planks for making laminated bows from him and he was great to work with. Delivered on product as promised.
