Great looking tools, Eddie. A few of us at the Hickory shoot, mainly Barry McCall with some help from a few others of us, built a little stone tool bow from a hickory tree we cut down Friday afternoon with tools very much like those. We had 'er shooting arrows by Sunday, needs to dry and season now, but we were pretty tickled with the outcome. One of those adzes like that was the main tillering tool, they work surprisingly well on green wood, don't they?

Boy Steve. She's got a nice bend.
I took a little wood off with the adz Barry had made. The adz worked very well for the shaping/tillering. ;D Pat
-
yeah that bow was looking pretty cool ! ;D , its probably picked up quite a bit of weight by now.
-
awsome tools and bwautiful bow. That is what it really is all about. Kenneth
-
Eddie, is that some of that tough nasty chert like the chunk you gave me? Looks like good adze material, I'll have to chip me out a couple.
-
Nice looking tools and the bow really turned out nice, the tiller looks dead on.
Pappy
-
Yea Steve,It holds up real good but chips easier than Ryolite.Jaime has the other head to the set.
-
Neat tools, i would like to make some like that someday. Great looking bow also. What kind of cordage is holding em together?
-
I'll be honest here :-\.The head is held in place with TB3.Then it's wrapped with hemp. Then coated with pine pitch from pine sap found in clay pots from the early 1920's,30's to make it look authentic.I wanted to use it and didn't want to keep putting the head back on.
-
Still works for me. ;D I think I better make some. I think I better use the rock I got from Cowboy. The obsidian chips to easy. Justin
-
Justin,When you are making chopping tools, obsidian works great ,probally better. It's sharp, and resharpens easy. Just make the cutting edge thicker.
-
Doesn't it crush to much on impact? Justin
-
................................ Nope an ya dont hit it head on "chucklehead 2 " ;D.........bob
-
So what about scraping, is obsidian good for that? Justin
-
.................................... Yup-lend me ya hand............... ;D ;D..bopb
-
I have used obsidian for cutting and scraping cordage. But I always figured it was to brittle for chopping. With all the obsidian we have around here, I have never seen a NA point made from it. All kinds of other rock, but no obsidian. ??? Justin
-
Arrow point or tool ?.bob
-
Neither. Justin

Saw an obsidian knife years ago in a colorado museum near Steamboat Springs that was said to be Yampah ( hope I got the spelling correct)and was said to have been made before the Spanish bought horses to plains and ancient Utes were hunter gatherers.................................bob
