Title: makeshift mortar and pestle
Post by: sonny on March 12, 2011, 10:10:44 pm
I need to crush up some red ochre that I got in a trade, trying to think of a good way of
crushing it without losing too much in the process. likely a bad idea to try to crush it on something flat......

suggestions ??

I'd crush it in a bowl with a tad of water.

A hard hammer stone on a hard stone surface like it probably was originally done. The water would help keep it all together.

my next door neighbor lady has two old stones that were used for grinding grain way way back in the day
she lets me use it for grinding upp charcoal and rabbit poo when i make pine pitch
dont see why something like that wouldnt work
but like siad a little water will help
if you dont use water, dont sneeze  ;D

I have a turtle shell that'll probably work well......getting ready to leave for work the other day
when I noticed that shell laying there and had a DUH!! moment, thinking to myself "you can
use that you moron"  haha
probably just find a suitable stick, round over the end and use that...........
