"reminds of a certain plant from my youth"
Ha, that would be sweet, paint the limbs green, :). Naw, but thats an amazing bow. Amazing craftmenship.
-
Thanks guys did not think of that when designing it maybe the next one I'll paint green-Hammertime
-
That is awsome! :o Really like the character on the back some one is going to be very lucky to have that!
Sailordad thats just funny ;D but after looking at it I believe you may be right lol
-
wow, great bow you made ther, those scallops add a very unique touch.

Nice design.....BUT it has to be painted a brownish green ;D
-
Good looking bow, finish work and tiller looks great, I guess I am old school,I know that it seems to work but ,I would be scared to death with that kind of longitudinal grain violation. Just me I guess. :) :) Nice work. :)

That bow is sweet, for sure. 'Course I'm a sucker for whittling on a bow, but yours just sort of "flows" someone ought to be a real happy camper.

never would have even thought of a design like that...very cool. Tiller looks good. I like the stain...what is it called?
-
Very nice and a most interesting design. Markus.
-
Thats amazing!!!!!
-
I am really liking the visual on this bow! I usually have a more "unrefined" taste but this bow is a pleasure to look at. Nice job.

Thanks all for the comments Pappy and others I'm sorry, not sure what you mean there please explain,if you are refering to the back of the bow those are not grain lines just leftover innerbark, hope it holds anyway got lots of shots through it,the stai n is ebony on the sides and red mahgony on the back anyways Thanks Hammertime
-
looking at the pics closer the lines on the back you see are actually pen lines for a painting scheme I might do later otherwise not sure what you fellas mean Hammertime
-
I'd be worried about the notches on the edge causing too much fibre violation on the back.......but hickory should handle it better than most anything else.
Darcy
-
Thanks Darcy just was not sure what you guys meant -the notches are like scallops, like Half-eyes article awhile back ,thought I'd try it-Hammertime
-
When I saw the cuts people are talking about I just thought they looked like the ones half eyes has been doing on his bows just a little different. I never read the article dont subscribe yet :'( but When I heard others concerns it made me wonder why as well? Maybe Half eye can chime in? Again looks awsome!

these aren scallops
scallops are like a semi circle
these are more or less chevorns (v) shapes
with the v notch at the base of eah one
it is like leaving a square corner on the bow
we all know that squared edges are where slinters are going to lift
same goes here
not to mention that where very v notch is it goes back up and gets wier nd then tapers back into the next v shape
this is causing grain violation on the back of the bow
more than just having the bow limb taper
also another good way to pop a splinter
i still think it looks cool though
makes me want to listen to some good ol Robin Trower tunes >:D 8)
just like old times
-
Guess I won't use this for my trade bow but it has held up nicely so far, don't want to take a chance though :-\Thanks all for looking-Hammertime
-
Hammertime,
How come ya wouldn't let somebody have that beauty? Yours should be holding up fine and obviously is from a stave......well here's a plains bow (more than a 100 yrs old) made from a stave.....it seems to have survived...........like I said before that bow just flows, it's a definitely a "keeper".

Man do not go that route. You are shooting that bow. It is unique. I can say if you had my name, I would LOVE to get that weapon. It is unusual bows like this one that really makes the trade in my opinion.

Thanks,Bevan I just love that scalloped, notched look others are making, had to try it myself-Hammertime

If I was the recipient I would be very happy with it ;D

I missed this one. Really interesting, and gutsy design. I hope it'll hold together for you. Good job. God Bless
-
dont get me wrong hammertime,
im not saying that you shouldnt use it for your trade bow
personally i think the limb design is cool like that
you asked why people thougt it may break
i posted what i thought the reasoning behind it would be
not saying it will fail, hell it may out last all of use
sorry if i upset you in any way, wasnt trying to ;)
-
Nice work Hammer!! I'd be more than happy to get a bow like that!! You want my address now :D It sounds like it shooting great. Keep up the good work.
-
Like I said, hickory should stand it better than most woods. If you have shot it a lot there is no reason to think it will not last. I just have not got the cahones to try it myself yet. ;D I"d be happy to get that as a trade bow too.
Darcy :)
