Title: Opalized Phosphate
Post by: mullet on April 14, 2011, 06:51:54 pm
A secret rock fairy did most of the hard work on this brittle rock, I just finished it up into a Newnan. I hope the secret fairy likes the finshed product. ;)

That looks a lot more like a Newnan than it did the other day. Good job, that stuff is hard to knap without it snapping.

Jamie, It only comes from 3 different places in the Peace River down here that I know of. Each of the three places has a different color of swirls. One is OD green, black and brown. Another is tans and browns and then this one which is blue, gray and black mostly.

Rock fairy?  I'm imagining a guy in pink buckskins and a feather boa singing show tunes while pressure flaking....

Anyway, that's some beautiful stone and what is obviously talented knapping.  Thanks for sharing.

Curt; I yanked my back three weeks ago and been turkey hunting. First weekend I rode my Mt. bike for an hour and walked for a half hour, killed a bird. I couldn't walk the next day. Then I spent six days at Pappy's chasing birds up and down those modest, steep hills of his.I self medicated with liquid refreshment and two bottles of Ibupropien. then off to Cades for four more days of chasing birds. I couldn't hardly walk one of those days. I'm 58. ;) :'( Going for an MRI in a week.
JW, That pink buckskin, feather boa, pressure flaking dude would be, leapingbare. This piece of rock was not up to his standards, so he gave it to me and said finish it.

Eddie, you don't look a day over 70 ;D That opalized phosphate is pretty rock, but man, is it brittle. It's like knapping a saltine. I find it really hard to get anything out of it without breaking and breaking and breaking it.
