I just had me a mess! Yum Yum ;D
-
They are so good the steak will be the side dish!
-
The wife a kid picked about 40 yellows tonight, very fresh....I rekon I'll have to go back and find the ones they missed tomorrow. ;D
-
I'm planning on going out to look sometime this weekend. Been craving morels for sure.
-
Going to be a few weeks before i find any up here !
-
My girls picked 112 last night. We were eating shrooms at 10pm. ;D
A very good year here so far.
-
Sure wish we had them down here. :'(
-
I aint had a Morel since I moved from Upper Michigan in 1982...but I can still close my eyes ...and taste them!
-
This will be my first year to go morel hunting and it will be a few more weeks before they show up here.
-
There's just barely beginning to pop up here. Me and Cody went to one of our honey holes this morning and only found ten or twelve down at the very low end of the holler. Next weekend should be the time to be out there.
-
I picked up 150 today while I was turkey hunting and walked past maybe 20 or 30 more scattered here and there. Good year here so far. I have a coupe of friends that have found over 2,000 in the last 3 days :o
I'd like to find that many just one time. Don't know what I'd do with em, but it'd be cool to find 'em. My wife won't touch 'em so I ended up giving most of the 300 or so I've found this weekend away.
-
Shannon, they dry really good.

Shannon, they dry really good.
Steve, would you care to "enlighten" me a little on that? :)
-
Shannon...we used to dehydrate them in a warm oven...and put the in Mason Jars ...now my kin folk dehydrate them in a dehydrator...and then vacuum seal them for storage...progress.... ;D
-
That's tue ------ they dehydrate very well andwhen you rehydrate them the flavor iseven more intense-------- I found about 60 this evening and cant wait to go get some more! of course, the ones i found this evening went into a gravy with some onions poured over a real nice baked steak!
Mmmmmmmm-Mmmmmmm good!
Eskimo-Bert ;D

I didn't count, but probably found between 75-100 over the weekend. Had a great meal Saturday night with deer roast, fried potatoes, fried cabbage, and mushrooms! Planning on a couple of steaks and some mushrooms tonight with my girlfriend! ;)
-
Sure do love them firied with some backstrap. We will have a very few about a month from now and the big ones are about the size of the end of your thumb. A/ho Joe
-
me and bert only found about 3 the other day whn he posted this but we went out yesterday and we found quite a few think imgoing out today to get some more. Man i wish they grew all year!!
-
Had a mess tonight, and they were good. Shannon, just stick 'em in the dehydrator and let them dry, store them in a 'shine jar, and soak them in warm water or milk to reconstitute them before you cook them. They taste just as good or better than fresh ones, and they'll keep forever as long as you keep them dry and sealed up.
-
Shannon, bring some of the dried ones to the Classic, I'll trade you something. I've never ate one before. :)
-
Reconstituted wild morels are crazy strong flavored. Man, I'm here to tell you they will make a stew stand up and cheer!
-
Well then...I reckon I'll dry some!
Eddie, if'n I get hold of more I will. No trade required
-
Eddie if you don't like them shrooms just bring em back with you and I'll be more than happy to take care of them.Haven't had one in years and you guys are killin' me
Bone pile

My girlfriend and I cooked some last night and they stole the show! Had them with steak and twice baked potatoes.
Got the skillet hot with some olive oil, put the mushrooms in and several slices of butter on top. A few dashes of worchestshire sauce, salt and pepper. After they cook down some we added heavy cream with some flour to make a gravy. They were great!
-
Shannon: If you have some dried and some left over from Mullet, I would like to trade for some. We didn't find enough last year to even stink up the skillet! A/Ho Joe
-
I've got a few in the oven drying now Joe. We'll see how it turns out ;)
-
All right, enough already!
It's time for the moderators to lock this thread. It's causing im-morel thoughts!
-
JW, I'd think about locking this thread if you loaded up your butt and came to the Classic with Joe. ;D
-
It sure sounds like fun, Gus. (oooh, that pun stinketh)
My heart will be there, Eddie. One of the three big things keeping me from going is a huge fundraiser we are doing for the non-profit I started, the Black Hills Raptor Center. It might not look good if the founder didn't show up.
-
Went out today and got drenched found about thirty blonde morels from 2 to 4 inches long ------ found a ten point shed, my buddy found a BUCK gut hook knife and sheath and a goat skull in the woods as well--------------not a bad day in the woods!
wish we would have found more morels though
Eskimo-Bert ::)
-
