Has anyone made a selfbow out of maple wood? I Just bought some wood for a project and had enough left over for a bow, Has anyone ever made one out of Maple? How did it work out?

I did a 40# ELB with a thin hickory backing. It took an inch and a half set, shot sweet and eventually ended up in the hands of a lovely young lady that shoots it better than I ever did.
Others here have had good luck too. If the grain is questionable, back it!
Go for it!

Maple is all I've used so far, but all 3 have been board bows. Maple makes a nice bow.

Maple is good - as long as the grain is straight.
Run a search for "maple" on this forum. You will get plenty of hits.

I have made several hard maple board bows and quite a few stave bows from douglas maple(mountain maple) as well as a couple from vine maple. One of my favorite woods, quite strong in tension. Try it, you'll like it. ;D
