Guess its time to present myself.
Im 48 year old swede that recently returned to enjoy archery after a long hiatus.
My first bow exploded while tillering due to my inexperience and really unsuitable wood in equal parts ;D
Working on the second now and its looking good so far.´
Im learning a lot reading all posts here, and the pictures of all pretty bows are inspiring,so thanks guys and gals for that.

In the northern parts where i live we dont have much to choose from, birch and sorbus aucuparia(dont know what you call it small paired leafs, whitish flowers and red berries in klusters at fall)and hackberry if lucky to find one, thats basicly it if you want to gather it by your self
in the southern parts we have Hazel, ash, elm, oak, european hornbeam and most fruittrees. But the one that exploded on me was from a oakboard that was the backrest on a bench at the university here for atleast 40 years ;D so besides it having more runoffs than not it was probably dry as bone.
But it was what i had and i wanted to get the feel for the methods and tools, now i work with a birch stave as practice before i start with my 2 prime ashstaves i bought.

Hello Aaron,i guess you mean dalarna, its a beautiful area.i live 610 kilometers (around 380 of your miles)further north in vasterbotten county.
And thanks for the offer of setting me up with obsidian but i never even tried knapping and i think i better concentrate on learning to make bow for now :)

Welcome, Mikael :)
Ash and Birch? Looking forward to seeing what you create with them as I have both drying out at the moment, myself.
I'm reading up on the Swedish bowhunting trials that took place a while back. Interesting reading!
