Anyone got a nomination for this month's challenge point?
-
I think we should make the points that tower has been posting.
-
How about the Montell point?
-
Montell Williams knaps? I never knew that......
Dang that was a terrible joke. Anyway, that sounds good to me.
-
Montell sounds good.
-
Never heard of a Montell.
Perhaps someone can post one to get it right...Thanks
-
Need a picture of a montell ' Frank
-
;D
-
Montell, works for me
now to see if i can make it work on my rock
any one know what the traditional rock would be for this type point?
if i have the right stuff i would like to make it from that
-
I've found them made of Edwards, pedernales, rootbeer, amoeba even some stuff I haven't seen before.I don't think they really cared as long as it knapped well.
-
thanks Tower
ive got a little rootbeer
i'll see if i got a piece the right size for this point
-
I hate to chime in but would love to join in - just can't guarantee that I'll have time to get anything done, work - sheesh. I've made a few of them buck toothed things surely I have one more in me ;D.
-
Is that an old , native point or a repo ? ' Frank
-
I think it's real. Some Texas artifacts look like they were made last week, especially when found where it seldom rains or freezes.
-
Seems simple enough :-\
-
Ok here's my Montell. Made from Pedernales flint from Junction TX. I wanted it to be a little thinner but things didn't seem to work out today. I might try another.
-

Yeah, maybe work on the symmetry too... ::)
-
yup im with patrick
i just dont have the cool pic to post like he does ;D
-
tiny notches with abo tools is my nemisis, so im in for the challenge
-
Tower Is that big for a montell ? (Are they all that big ?) ' Frank
-
It' not commen but - have seen one 6" long. Most of the large Montells I've found have been resharpened or broken above the tangs. The avg. Length of the complete ones I've found are about 2.5 to 3 inch
-
tower I think if I was you I would try again......LOL ...And give that one away..... nice point............Curt
-
That Texas rock rules..!!! beautiful point.
-
Does last May count??? ;D
Made this one from some Texas concrete I get from N2 (Wade)
-
tower that is nice. Made it to bend to get some rock. your brother is breaking all mine now. I know how he feels know when i was breaking all of his.
-
Welcome to my world. He has been making gravel out of my rocks for a long time!
-
i can not gripe much i have broke alot of his.
-
Here is my try 125 gr so I can use it this deer season. (http://)
-
Ok here is my shot at it. It is 125grains. (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb423/Iowabow1/2011-05-10204312.jpg)

now thats a damn nice looking bucktooth point :o
-
wow well done guys. been trying to get some knapping done but spending too much time fishin and eatin "weeds". made a biface for one of these but havent had time to finish it
-
Great points posted...
I have had two that were working out nice, then I broke a tang off. Still trying, but the Rhyolite supply is getting low.
It's never a bad point, it's just a bad flake! :P

You done beat that football all gone?
-
Nice Montells, I'd give both them a home.
-
Got mine going, have to do the notching. ' Frank
-
I think I will put my on an arrow!
-
Starting on a new montell. Kinda busted off a ear maybe going in a little too deep. Better luck tomorrow. ' Frank
-
Sparrow, I've found Montells with shoulders not barbs.
-
Well the Rhyolite beast has been gracious once again. Here is my Montell or something close.. ::)
-
Those are all some good loking points. Lyman that rhyolite does look alot like the rock ive been getting but all Ive made so far is gravel. Its a beast to thin.
-
I've got some preforms nocked out, but, it's in the high nineties. Hard to get motivated after work. :-[
-
:-\ Broke two attempts today. I'll try again this weekend... ;D
-
Here's mine. This was the fourth attempt. Modern tools. ;D

Looks good Patrick! I've got two done but they look like crappola - can't seem to get them bases right. Gonna try again today..
-
I QUIT! Not really, won't stop till I get one that's right. Made those two little ugly one's, stalled notches, funky lookin bases, then had one going about right and blew the ears off of it. Hahaha - these things are tougher than I thought. Hats off to you guys that have succesfully finished one ;D.
-
Cowboy, all those are sweet, I'd say you just posted yours!
-
You guys are posting some excellent points. They make me want to go arrowhead hunting. It's been a while & they are giving me the jitters.
-
Tried another Montell and was much happier with the notching. Its not a large point but I liked the way it turned out. It's another Rhyolite beast.. >:D
-
Wow! That rhyolite reaking of tough, i can almost taste it. Good point from it though..
-
That stuff looks like it would kill my wrist when pressure flaking it. Looks good

We can hook you up! I got some that wont flake worth a darn with percussion...I mean it will but most of the time it's not a clean flake....but, imho....pressure flakes awsome..ok maybe not awesome but a lot better than it percussion flakes. Want some? ;D
-
here is mine.
-
Cool! I like the variety of materials.
-
Got a knapping window today, figured I'd attempt the challenge again.Knocked a spall off a big chunk of glass buttes and thought "Wow, that's a big chunk, lets see what it makes,Made a tomahawk head. Oh well, I will try the challenge again tomorrow. ' Frank
-
nice hawk ;D
nother piece of pedernales. really happy with the notches on this one , cause notches give me trouble with abo tools. the outer ones were done with an ulna notcher and the inner one an antler punch. snapped the ear when i was taking a few of the last punches out of the center notch. makes it look authentic though
