Your Daddy did a heck of a job on that one. Looks like it ought to do the job.

Made of plywood...

Plywood???

How's it sealed?  I can't imagine plywood not being a sponge and soaking up water, causing the layers to split.

Looks like a nice boat, all the same.  I hope it lasts a long long time and serves you all well :)

Hatch...all of the PT Boats that were used during World War 2 were made of Plywoods ..of sorts...depending on the Manufacturer...They were all 2 layers of opposite laid diagonally laminated Planks glued together and covered with Canvas and the sealed with waterproof Glue...My Great Grandfather bought one of these stripped down Behemoths after WW11 for next to nothing...they were burning them on the Beaches by the Naval Bases...too much Up Keep on a Wood Boat ....the Family had it for decades before selling it for something that cost less to operate...3 Inboard Packard Motors drank a lot of Gas...I wish I had done more than look at Pictures of Her...but it was gone before I was Born.

This boat was fiber glassed at the seams and the whole boat  was epoxy saturated so it is water tight you would have to shoot a hole in it to make the wood soak up water

Damn you guys know how to make something watertight!!  :D

I remember my dad, uncles and granddad building a boat out of white deal planks, another wood (possibly pine) for the gunwales and all built around an oak keel.  Each plank was hand shaped, steemed and fitted to the ribs that were also soaked, steemed and formed.  My Granddad, being ever watchful for a bargain, managed to get his hands on a shedload of paint to colour it.  Turned out to be water solluble emulsion...   ::) :-\ :-X

Boat sank like a rock and had to be dried out before we could paint it with a more appropriate sealant ;D

Good times hehehe
