Have you ever had one of those days when you were doing something with a table saw, really following all the safety rules and it still didn't work out? I was cutting some knife scales for Jonathan Creason for a trade we had going and I'm sorry to say that Jonathan wil have to saw the rest. I was cutting some pretty cocabola, using a push stick and pushing the wood in from the side with my left hand thumb and index finger. The blade hit a knot at the very end of the cut and kicked back, broke in half, bruised the crap out of my left thumb and tore off a pretty good chunk of my index finger. I sat in the ER for four hours for them to clean, and wrap it good so I can go to work tomorrow. There was no sewing this back up, it'll take some bondo or some cut off my butt and patched in. :D
-
dang Eddie hate to see anyone get hurt , recovery time sux too. hope your not left handed could make the post throne work interesting
-
Dang Eddie, I hate that. Sucks that you got hurt trying to hook me up. That sure is some purty wood, though. I've got a 14" bandsaw so I can cut the rest no problem.
-
kewl ;D ;)
-
Ouch! Got any pics without the wrapping? I love to see gross stuff.
-
Well Eddie.......................ahhh forget it...............Mamma said...If'n You can't say Something Nice...Then Keep Yer Damned Lips Shut..... :-X... :-X.... :-X
-
Sorry to hear about you're mishap Eddie get well soon. Ron
-
Sorry to see that, it always has me nervous when I cut thin strips for that reason. Just glad you still have all your digits. ;)
-
Damn the luck Eddie ;D. Ya know, I'm gonna catch it one of these days I'm sure. I took all the safety devices off my table saw to rip staves and such, I do use a push stick when it get's to the end but I just have a feeling, hmm..
-
That sucks. Sorry to see that happen to you. I use a table saw nearly everyday and many times a day, stuff like this is always on my mind. No matter how safe you are, accidents will always happen. Especially if you leave all of the OSHA crap on your tools. ;D Hope you make a fast recovery.
-
Outlaw, I started to take a picture before I left for the ER, but I had stopped it before it started to leak real bad. I'll take you some in a couple of days when I have to rewrap it ;) Thanks, my good buddies Ron and Mike, you're about as sympithetic as my wife and daughter. My daughter told her friends to move their cars because it must be nasty because I said' "take me to the ER", and didn't ask for Super Glue or a band aid. ;D
-
Sounds like my teenage daughter. About as concerned about me as all those rocks I got laying in the yard ::). Heal well...
-
Ha,ha, thanks buddy.
-
Sheesh! So no damage to connective tissue, just a flesh wound? That stinks, Eddie.
-
Well damn Eddie. By the way, how's your back? ;D
Lane
-
I turned down the pain med's, didn't need them . I'm waiting for a call for an epidural for the back. They gave me some pain Med's for the back that doesn't do anything but make me sleepy, so I don't take them Steve, I just took all the meat off one side and missed the bone. It'll be fine but will suck at work in the morning.
-
Dang Eddie be careful son Hope ya heal fast
Ron
-
Put some bag balm on it ;D ' Frank
-
Yeah...if He was here...I would wrap it with a piece of cotton sheet soaked in Corona Salve...and not the beer...they put Corona on everything here...think it's a Miracle Cure!!
-
Glad you didn't lose some/all of the finger, Eddie. Could've been really bad. Heal quickly man!
Steve.
-

-
Damn Jonathan, why ya wanna do that to Eddie?..........P.S Eddie...he's down there in Florida right now set to watch the shuttle launch....if you HURRY, you may can catch him to kick his @$$ for doing that to ya before he makes the trip back home.
-
I was going to suggest just what Pappy said. Table saws have a very limited used IMO
-
OUCH!!! OK, that makes up my mind... I'm definitely switching to abo tools! ;D
PS Eddie, I was thinkin'... you probably won't be using that table saw again... can I have it? ;D
-
I hate you got hurt, but look on the bright side....you made it through turkey season first!!
-
Man, sorry for you getting hurt like that Eddie. I hope it heals well and gives you full use of it.
-
HOLY COW ,i just wet my pants looking at the pic...i hope it wasnt to painfull..john
-
In hind sight, as narrow as the pieces were I was cutting I should have switched to my band saw. I bought it to cut nice thin lam's of all this Ipe I have. Jonathan is only two hours from my house, he could come by, use my saws and take it all home with him. ;D
-
I'm a good 8+ hours from you now, Eddie. We hit the road right after the launch and got home around 6. We did have a pretty dang awesome view of the launch, though.
-
You were lucky, they hardly ever go off when they say they will.
-
This was our 2nd attempt at seeing this launch. That's the reason I wasn't at the Classic.
-
Ouch! That's gotta smart..
-
Jonathan, were going in july. Had another vacation planned but were going to scrap it and do this instead that way if it don't go up we got a back up plan. Kinda like yall did the first time
-
Dang Eddie, hate to see that Bro, At least it wasn't them shootin fingers. Sure was nice to meet you and your wife at the Classic. Good thing you have a good woman to keep you in line. ;D Back on the home front finally
-
Damn Eddie I been chopped up a few times and that still makes me cringe.
-
Wow Eddie, so glad you missed the bone but that is really gonna smart for awhile, especially the fingernail area. I hope it heals fast for you, just make sure you keep it clean...an infection there would really stink!
I watched a guy loose 2 fingers on a table saw when I was younger (he was dumb and was wearing leather gloves) so I have always respected (feared) those machines. If I can cut stuff on any other tool I will but I still occasionally find myself using the table saw but do so VERY carefully and with both eyes open.
Heal fast~
-
Eddie, man... those new pic's almost put me off my baps!!
...almost... ;D
Be interesting to see how it heals up and what way the nail grows from now on :D
now... back to my bap!! ;)
-
It don't take but a fraction of a second does it Eddie. :o I've had a close call or 2 over the years but am happy to still have all my original equipment. Take care of that finger and let it heal. It's gonna be slow going with that gash.
-
That's a dandy! You won't be pickin any boogers with that one for a while! :D
My brother works at a cabinet shop and a couple years ago he was almost hit in the head...by a thumb :o Those table saws are mean machines.
-
Durn, Eddie-hope you didn't dull the saw blade up too bad. Those bones and stuff are rough on a good saw blade. ;D
-
Yikes! Very close call...hope it heals well. If not, at least it'll save some wear and tear on your fingernail clippers...
-
Ouch, that looks painful.. Thanks for sharing.. Makes us all a bit more cautious..
-
Are you going to post some pics when it heals up? That nail is never going to be the same. Hope it don't hurt too bad. Tablesaws have claimed 6 finger tips from my grandfather and uncle. I only use mine for ripping lumber.
-
Dave, what is amazing is it didn't hurt when it happened and doesen't at all right now. And I think I can forget that fingernail. ;D
-
Ya I hope it heals up nicely and quickly,Shanon ,I really needed a laugh this morning and sure got one from you post, you sure have a way with words. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D You will be taking Woody's place when you get a little more practice. :) :)
Pappy
-
Pappy, he better practice alot to catch up to Woody. ;D Eddie, my nail still hasn't grown all the way back from my little mishap in Jan. It does take time. Hope it heals.
David
-
That ain't bothering me none, Dave. That's one less I have to put polish on. :D
-
But, there went you career as a hand model. ;D
