Title: Came home to a box on my porch
Post by: jonathan creason on June 03, 2011, 12:31:00 am
I ran home from work today to grab the dog and head to my son's t-ball game.  When I pulled in the drive I noticed a box propped up beside my door, and got as giddy as a school girl.  Hammertime had PMed me to let me know to keep my eyes peeled, so I knew what was inside.  I couldn't help but rip the box open and check out the bow before I went to the game.  When I got one end open I noticed a recurved tip starting back at me.  I've been wanting a recurved self bow for a while, awesome!  But the best was yet to come.  As I continued opening the box I noticed the recurve was actually a 3 piece take-down.  How freakin' cool is that?  But wait, there's more.  There was another bow in the box, a walnut paddle bow!  To say I was stoked would be the understatement of the week, but I resisted stringing them up until after the game.  As soon as I got home I ran for the box on the dinning room table, got the bows strung, grabbed a couple of arrows and headed out the door.

1st, the hickory/walnut take-down recurve

This is one sweet shooting bow.  I can stack the arrows in there with this thing, and for the few that saw me shoot last weekend you know how hard that is for me to do.  I'm really looking forward to carrying this one come deer season.

Next, the awesome paddle bow

Unfortunately, on my second draw this happened

My heart sank when I felt it give.  Not only have I wanted one of these bows for a while now, I know somebody put a lot of time and effort into it.  Not a problem though, I've still got one great bow and I'll find a way to salvage that wood.

Thank you very much, Jeffrey!

Well if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black.  ;D

Nah, I actually cut the draw real short because I wasn't certain what it was tillered to.  I looked for a minute but couldn't figure out what caused it to give.  I shot the take down for a while last night and I think I'm in love.  I've finally got a bow I can shoot consitently.

The take down is a awesome looking bow.....the paddle bow was a very nice looking bow also.   It is a shame it broke but it does happen.

That is to bad, I hate to see a bow break on anyone.
I always wait a few days for a bow or stave to acclimate before I do anything with it.

Oh yeah, loving the takedown more and more every time I shoot it.  I really apprecite you wanting to send another bow, too.  Don't feel like you have to, though, I'm more than happy with what I've got.  Defiinitely not going to turn down another bow, though.   ;D

Thats ashame on the paddlebow.

You know I started being real careful with a bow I just strung.  I was talking to Stim Wilcox at the Balt. Trad Classic, and he recommended I keep it strung for 5 min before cranking it back,  then do a series of short pulls.  I used to string a bow and go to full draw and fire.

The take-down is special, Hammer you done good. jonathan I really thought in the first pic that the dog was showing a special interest in your bow :o.

Never thought about "warming up " a bow but it makes sense.

hammertime iffen you just gotta send somebody a paddle bow let me know.

This is what the bow trade deal is all about. See the smiles all around ;D.
