Title: Bending Bamboo
Post by: Polar Bear on June 04, 2011, 07:33:58 pm
I hope this is the right place for this as it is not bow related.

My wife now has to use a cane to help her walk.  I would like to make her one out of bamboo.  Can bamboo be heated, bent and hold the bend when cool?  Should I just make the shaft from bamboo and make the handle to be added on?

I came to this site because of the accumulated knowledge that is here.

personal i have no experience with boo other than a few backings

but i have used heat to straighten some terrible looking cane for arrows
heat does wonders to it when done slowly and evenly and carefully
i see no reason it wouldnt work the same woth boo

I made one last Christmas,,It wont bend that much for a handle.  I cut it to length and e-poxyed a heavy deer antler on the one I did. Sorry no pics, the feller I made it for uses it every day.

Rick that should work.  I have plenty of antler for projects.  Hadn't even thought of that setup.
