Title: new bow
Post by: stickthrower on June 08, 2011, 04:05:41 pm
Hi all.

Here are a few pictures of the new bow.  I hope you like it.

It is named Rough'n because it has been a rough time, and it is when I decided to work on the bow.  The 1st picture is a full draw shot, the 2nd is a shot of the name on the bow, and the line below it is the design on the belly of the bow.

The 3rd picture is a close up of the grip from the belly side, the 4th is the handle on the back side and you can see some of the design on the bow.

5th is the bow braced and sitting out, and the 6th is a shot of one of the nocks.

Here are a couple more pictures, showing the design on it, and the other nock.

I know it is kind of rough, but when I finished it and saw how it looked, I really liked the look of it.  So I left it as it is, and have done some shooting with it.  I have gotten about 40-50 arrows through it, but will be waiting to shoot more until I get some more arrows.  I was using a aluminum one that I had around, but I have bent it shooting into wood, and have ripped most of one vane off it.

I have about 10 coats of tung oil on it, and will put a few more on it after I get the lbd on it.

It is drawing about 40 lbs at 28 inches.  It is a bit lower than I wanted, but for a second bow I am happy with it.  It shoots really good too.  I have been shooting at dandelions, wood and cans, and hitting most things that I am aiming at.  I am really happy with it, and love how it shoots.

Hope you like it.  I would like to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks for looking.

Nathan

Plain and simple, just the way I like 'em. Nice bend in the limbs.

Nice second bow. And don't worry on trying to hit exact weight yet. Just keep makin  em bend like that.

What type of wood is it?

looks like a success , nice  balanced tiller... pretty good for a second bow, its difficult to get the weight you want without a lot of experience...

Thanks Josh, I am pretty sure that was pure luck.  I pretty much eye balled it and measured it out when I thought it looked good.

Pearl, yeah I liked the plain and simple on this one.  Thanks.

Blackhawk, Yeah, it was a number in my mind, but happy with how it turned out.  If I can get the next to bend like this, I will be extremely happy.  It is a hickory board.

Dragonman, thanks.  I was just happy that it turned out.  I will worry about hitting the right weight later.

Thanks alot for looking and telling me what you think.

Nice job. 40# will kill a deer just as dead as a 50# Love the tiller. I'm like Pearl I like um simple. Are you from up north? Indiana maybe?

Not sure what the brace height is at.  Will have to pull out a tape measure tomorrow and check it.  I would say it is happy where it is at? :)

Well, the neighbor has let his yard go this year, so the dandelions are taking over mine as well.  So I have alot of targets right now.  I just mowed them over the other day, and already they are all over the place.  Looks like I am going to have to go out and weed & feed to get rid of the things.

Yeah, definitely a shooter.  I am loving taking it out and shooting it, even if it is only a few arrows at a time.  It feels really nice in the hand.

Thanks Pappy!

Yeah, 40 works great for a deer as does 50.  I am happy with the 40 lbr.  I like the simpleness of the bow as well.  Yeah, I am up north, but MN.

Thanks Big Country.  Appreciate it.

Thanks ErictheViking adn Bower3.  There were soem lines that didn't sand out, and when I looked at them, I got the idea for the design.  It wasn't really complicated, but I liked how it turned out.

Thanks Sailordad! :)  Yeah, it took me a while to get my keester going on it, but it turned out good!  :)  Thanks for helping me so much!

Nathan;

You nailed the tiller on that one. I like simple.
