Title: holmegaard/mollegabet (bom) osage bow
Post by: peshikthe on June 16, 2011, 09:08:04 pm
here is the latest bow that i shoot and use,its specs are 57 inches tip to tip, 58 pounds at 27 inches,1 and 3/4 inches wide at the handle and fades to 1 and 1/2 as the tips(upper limb) transitions to 1/2 inch to 3/16 wide at the tip.the side measurements are 3/8 at the transiton to 3/4 of an inch at the tips. it is a sweet shooter with a slightly stiffer upper limb ,  its brace heigth is 5 inches and has no stack very quiet and very smoothand it is very fast . here are a few pics.

Nice looking bow. I have one very similiar about half finished. I really like the slim levers on yours. Also, not to offend you but that style is a Mollegabet not a Holmgaard. I think most people generalize the two styles. You have a fine representation.

hey jonw i made it out of a pic off of the traditional bowyers bible. i believe the only difference between the holmegaard and the mollegabet is the holmegaard is wider at the beginning of the narrow upper and it narrows at the tip and the mollegabet are just the opposite like mine, now that i look at it. its good to learn. ive got over 500 shots already on "p'catewah posetha" (black cat).

no osage outlaw not a natural born hoosier, but i have met some of the greatest people ive ever met there at the dale, and i have found it to be the norm to meet some of the best folks anywhere at traditional bow shoots.

here is the final touches on my mollegabet bow i added a stitched and glued handle and one more coat of poly and i wrote the specs on it with the bow name also.here is a pic or two.the leather is longer toward the top to allow my boo arrows to run across, boo and osage can be noisy.lol cant wait to see all of your bows and i wish i hadnt missed the trade bow .

I've been half tempted to do something similar but have'nt yet. I've been stuck in the pyramid mode. Not that I'm complaining but I think I will be doing one of those this year. Great work and I bet its a good hunter.   Danny

hey seabass im from chillicothe about an 1 and 1/2 from cincy area, side winder the mollegabet style is very smooth and fast but inherintley quiet.  they are not as easy as the pyramid design(my favorite for white wood) but as long as care is given to the transition areas they are worth the effort. if you decide to make a osage bow id be glad to give ya my specs and dimensions for mine.

shot at my buddys house(he has some targets set up on a course) its five minutes from my house and i shoot for free, my  molle loves the 560 grain boo arrows and they shoot fast and flat.
