Title: Tillercheck on my birch fishingrod
Post by: TBod on June 25, 2011, 05:19:19 pm
Hi!

Tried to make a fishingrod. Silverbirch, squarish cross section of about 6,3 feet. Thinking of getting more bend near the handle. Any ideas?

Tiller looks good to me. I think I'd leave the handle area stiff for power. Is t built like a boo fly rod or is it a selfrod?

Ok thanks Pat!

It's just a 2-piece laminate made from scraps. Built like a bow except I scraped both on "belly and back" glueline in the middle.

That's awesome! I don't guess I've ever seen a "self" fishin rod. Can you post some closeups? I'd love to see some more detail! Great job!

Thanks Will!

I'm not finshed with the details yet. Went finishing with it today,a great feeling. I'm definitely hooked on the concept, gonna make more rods this way.

Some half crappy pics.

What power aand action is it? Looks like a medium heavy, moderat action. I build custom rods, from fly to off shoe trolling. That one looks sweet. Very nice job

Thanks guys!

hillbilly 61: it works best for lure heavier than 20 gram gram. I think it's about 3/4 action. I'm gonna try flyrods later. How do you make yours, boo or white woods, laminate arrangement? Round cross section or rectangular like mine?

I just order the blanks (graphite or fiberglass) and componants Glue the cork rings and shape. I just make them to the customers specs I can't wait to see some more of yours :) Ya would'nt be interested in some cork rings would ya? ;)

That's beyond cool!  The action looks like a great blend of bite detecting sensitivity and fighting backbone.

Thanks guys!

Go ahead try yourselves it´s not more difficult then building a bow, about the same thing. Not that I´m any expert either way. Good use of the scraps from bowmaking also.

Hillbilly: No thanks have no need for the cork, got my backyard full of birch and stuff.

I've built fly rods but never gave a spinning rod a thought. SWEETTTT
