Title: question about bamboo backing

if i was to buy boards for making a bamboo bow...does the grains of the board have to go with the entire length of the board...or does it even matter..thanks john

I think it always helps.  If you have some run offs you still could have the belly split on you.  quarter sawn would work good too.

the straighter grain the better, but I have made boo backed bows where the grain runs off and had no problems at all.....

I agree, John.  You can get away with runoffs and other maladies but you're better off with a proper piece of wood.
