Here's one I just put the finishing touches on today for the Bow Swap on Trad Gang.
This would fall into the backed category. It's a Bamboo Backed Osage with a black snake skin through the handle and about half way out to the tips.
Old style tips (no overlays) 60" NTN, 50# @ 28" and 1" of retained reflex after tillering from the 3" that I glued into the straight profile.
Finish on the tips is Fiebings medium brown leather dye, then the finish is Poly semi gloss.
I think it's the fastest bow I've built to date and it really hammers my 450gr. CX Predators home with authority. It's kinda tough to turn this one loose, but the object of the bow swap was to do the best you can do for someone else. I think I put as much into this bow if not more than one I would make for myself. I hope my recipient enjoys it and maybe even draws blood with it.
BTW- That T-shirt I'm wearing is the Camp Cuervo Archery Club Iraq which is an archery program sponsored by the Michigan Bow hunters Association. They donate archery equipment to the soldiers in Iraq in the form of bows, arrows, targets, arm guards, finger tabs, ect. so the soldiers who like to shoot traditional will have a little piece of home when they are so far away. Maybe it helps take their mind off of the war for just a little bit.
Buying the T-shirt helps raise money for shipping of donated equipment.
I believe that the Camp Cuervo in Iraq has since moved to another location? Not sure on that, but there is also one in Afghanistan as well.
Now here's the pics.

Nice gesture, and a nice bow.

Nice bow. The mission of the archery club is a fantastic idea! Most of us would never have thought of sending those items to our soldiers. Besides being a little touch of home, it provides a good pass-time activity -- like you said, to think of something other than the war.
Keep up the good work.

Great work SEMO! I love everything about it! Just plain awesome! :o
-
Great job on that one. Hope the person who receives it does it justice and hunts with it. Have to make another one for yourself ;)
-
Thanks guys!
I plan on doing just that Guar, except the next one will have Ipe on the belly but will be the same design as this one. I like the short style long bows and skinny limbs, really makes em quick!
I may shoot for 62" overall length on the next one.

Love the fade on the nodes, sweet work Chris. Is that leather from a chair or something? Sure looks like upholstry leather to me........

Thank You Sir.
Why yes, it sure is upholstery leather. I believe of the Lazy Boy recliner variety, very highly sought after leather for handle wrapping.........most luxurious leather known to man next to baby seal................some have even been killed while trying to aquire it. It's illegal in some countries from what I understand. LOL :o  8)
**Inside joke** ::)
-
Very nice bow....the person that gets it is very lucky. Oh and the key to that leather is how fast you can field dress it off of the recliner or couch. LOL ;)
-
Thank you James.
I like to wrestle them to the ground using brute strength and just rip the leather right off the beast with my bare hands, they don't put up much of a fight but they are fairly large beasts and quite clumsy. ;D
-
I like the way you faded the skins to a point on the ends, haven't seen that before, looks really good.
-
Great looking bow, Love the skin transition to the bamboo, Very well done, Someone will be blessed.
-
Awesome job. Really like it.
-
Wish i was wrestling with a lazy boy chair right now - think i'd lose :P. Very nice bow!
-
Are those skins from the the wren nest raider snake Chris?
-
Thank you fellas for the kind words.
Yep Pearl that would be the one that ate my baby wrens, he died a quick and painful death by wiffle ball bat! I should have wrote "Wren" on the belly of the bow, but since it was to be sent off in the bow swap I decided not to.

nice job SEMO_HUNTER.

It's a beautiful bow!
I really like the fadeout tint on the boo,Did you use a sponge to do it?

Thanks.
I just use a small piece of clean cloth towel and dab it in the dye and wipe it on. After it dries I sand some of it off to lighten it up in the areas I want lighter and leave the rest darker. If you leave some of the rind on the boo backing in streaks it will show through the dye to give it a nice effect.
-
Thanks, it really looks nice.I think i have to try that out sometime.
