Title: "Purple Haze"
Post by: osage outlaw on July 12, 2011, 01:33:34 am
Here is a bow that I made for my wife.  She has never shot a bow before, so I thought I would make her one and see how she liked it.  When I asked her what kind she wanted, she asked for one with flamingo's on it ???  That didn't happen.  What we ended up with was a hickory bow dyed purple with a pink string.  Thanks to Wildman for the trade on the pink string material.  The bow is 66" long, 1 3/8" wide to mid limb, then tapering to 1/2" pin nocks, and 30 lbs # 26".  She wanted a plain black leather grip with no stitching, so that's what she got.  I have 6 coats of tru-oil on it and the back shines like a new car.  In one picture, you can see me waving in the reflection on the bow.  The bow took a pretty good amount of set which I don't mind.  I built this bow so it would be easy for her to shoot, not for performance.  I think I will wait for the humidity to break before tillering any more hickory.  Sorry about all of the pictures.  The bow is very photogenic ;D

I don't like purple, myself, but that is pretty cool. Looks well made and will serve its purpose well.

I like it, as a child I read comics, there was an archer named Hawkeye. He had a purple bow and arrows, the guy was a total bad ass he started my love/ obsession with the skill, again amazing bow double O.

Very nice bow Clint, Good for you for birthing another Primitive Archer.  Was great to meet you at the Classic and I keep admiring that Osage you gave me. Not sure when I'm going to dive in on it but when the vision hits you know the chips will fly. ;)

Something about purple.  I made mine purple arrows.  I think it was how I convinced her to shoot with us.  Now, she's hooked.  Caught her looking at snakes (for their skins saying, "Hey, that would look cool on a bow!)  at the zoo.

Hey, great to get the wives into it.  Nice looking bow, Clint.  Hmmm, are there any purple snakes?

Clint,

Too funny. She sounds like some of the ladies I teach with. Buddy, you should go ahead and paint some flamingos on there after all... My daughters would love that bow. One loves purple and the other one loves pink.

Nice job and congrats on the new convert.
