Title: #100 and #101
Post by: ken75 on August 24, 2011, 02:16:56 pm
well i just finished my 100th and 101st shooters , it took 22 months and was one of the best rides ive been on. nothing fancy about these just a crepe myrtle stave 51 inches and an osage stave 52 inches. crepe myrtle bow has some character and four knots finished 46 lbs at 27 inches. osage has a lil swirl and a handle inspired by Ryan . finished 49 at 28 inches. hope to share more in the future ive settled down some on the building but i still enjoy it .

Congrtas on the milestone! :) love the character knots on the cm and the color handle and tips on the osage. both are sweet looking full draws. I'd say "keep 'em coming" but that's a given with you. :D

Nice bows, but for a while there I thoght you meant they wer 100# and 101# and I was thinking that's a lot of poundage on a short bow...but then I am a bit daft ::).

Very very nice.....that CM has a picture perfect circle on it, not that the osage is a slouch mind ya. Like it's "ziggy" grip area.

Got to say Ken That CM gets me goin anymore....after ya shoot one I'm kinda spoiled for other woods ::)

Dell ya made me laugh out both sides a my face....knew he couldn't pull 100# and he sure as hell dont weigh no 100#  >:D

Super bows my friend

Nice job Ken. I never take advice from anybody with less than 100 under their belts. I just added you to my "ask a question" list!:)

Nice bows Ken.  Since those 2 bows are so closely matched, I'm curious which shoots further, draws nicer, etc.  Osage or crepe myrtle, which is better of those 2?  Like I said, just curious.

You mean #'s 100 and 101 this month, right?   ;) ;D

They both look great, buddy, but dang that CM looks like it would wrap right around a beach ball.  Awesome tiller on that one.

They look like fine hunting sticks.

Congrats, ken. Keep making bows and showing us your work.  You and others on PA make me want to try different woods and all kinds of bows.

thanks ya'll for the kind words , we joke when the new guys show up about "welcome to the addiction" but theres a lot of truth to it . i broke about 15 bows before reading the instructions and finally completing one , and once i got started i felt like i needed to try every design i could read about or dream up. thanks to all of yall for direction and inspiration, and especially to Rich for answering many questions at all hours of the day and night.it was nice to lean on his years of experience and knowledge.

So are you going to change your name to Ken100?  Ken101?  Next thing you know it will be Ken1000.   Like others have said both bows are very nice but the tiller on that black one is just AMAZING.  Good work on both!  Congrats on breaking 100! Wait I mean MAKING 100.  Just AWESOME.

My father-in-law asked me the other day "...what are you going to do with all these bows? You gonna sell any or are you just trying to see how many you can make?"   He also said recently " You need to stop making bows and check the oil in your car once in a while..."

He thinks I neglect things that "need" to be done while I'm wasting time making bows.

I never started this with the thought of making a few bucks.  I just thought it would be cool to make a bow.

I'm still a newbie to bow making and it's just something I need to do. Yep I got the addiction you mentioned.  It's just enjoyable.  Nothing like shooting the first arrow from a bow you just made.  Or going through the tillering process and feeling the excitement of transforming a peice of wood into a bow.  Or when you string it for the first time, or....I think I have 5 in the works right now not to mention the additional 11 or so I have the local boyscouts working on. I can't finish them fast enough before I just have to start another one!

You are one of the people that have really inspired me on these forums and I thank you for it.  Thanks for sharing your work with us!

He really cranked them out, Jesse. He also turned arrow shafts. He sent me 6 black walnut shafts and I made arrows with most. Maybe he got a job.  ;D  ...or possibly burned himself out on building bows.  :o

I was wondering the same a few weeks ago.  Then saw this post and thought he was back in action.  Then noticed the date that the thread was started  ::) Anyhoo, good to hear you are still around Ken.

Hey Ken, It would be better if you told the guy you owed a bow to in the 2012 bow trade why you got one and couldn't send one. ???
