Josiah shot this old mule deer doe late yesterday evening with an osage selfbow .. He stalked the deer along the river during a high wind and made a great shot .. double lung at three yards.. the doe actually came within five feet of him then backed up and turned broadside allowing for a perfect shot opportunity.I was ten yards behind him when he shot her, she launched into the river and across into a dense thicket. Josiah tracked her this morning... he field dressed and dragged her a quarter mile mostly by himself.. using the river to keep her afloat and easier to drag. This is his third big game harvest in two years using selfbows or horsebows.. I am so proud of his prowess as a hunter. thanks to Joe York Wolf watcher for taking him to the classic this year and being a great role model and mentor, and to El Destructo Michael Roberts for making that stick into a smooth shootin bow ..And to everyone else who helped him to build the bow and fueled the fire in this young archer. I think there will be a full meat pole here on the mountain from now on as long as his quiver is full.. hope everyone enjoys their outings this year while in pursuit of adventure. aim small miss small brothers and sisters of the bow.... Damn right! I love it! Cangrats to the young MAN and all that made it possible for him.

Well, Josiah's a Huston alright. He has been brought up in a tradition most young people have no idea about. I would like to thank David and Cora Knight for the bow class and bow they put together and EL D Destucto for his help in the next steps getting the bow ready for finishing. I have to laugh as the bow I brought back is just now getting the final touches and Josiah has already harvested with his. Am expecting him to shoot an elk as well this season! One thing for certain Josiah is a hunter! A/Ho Joe

Congratulations! I also met Josiah at the Classic, and it was quickly apparent he wasn't your typical young man from a traditional archery viewpoint! He was an excellant shot, and great at throwing the hatchet as well.

Mighty Fine Job!!!

Great success story of a great hunt. Nothing as good as the fire in a young hunter's heat...unless it's watching your son as he succeeds. This is one to remember.

thanks brothers of the bow.. just showed Josiah all your comments..He is still sailing on cloud nine ... we just got off the mountain packing out an elk i shot .. lots of meat for sure..

One of the things I remember about the Classic was meeting Josiah...what a fine young man. I told Josiah that my son's name is Josiah also. My Josiah is coming out this weekend to hunt whitetail with a stick and string....I will be sure and tell him about your Josiah's success.
Josiah in the bible was one of Israel's youngest kings...I suspect he was a hunter too.

I'm also interested to know how many pounds that set up is. My 14 yr old is hunting with me this Oct but he is struggling a bit with the min weight for MN of 30#. I hope he gets a close opportunity like that. We are going to use ghillie suits and mocs and try to get close.

Way to go Josiah. Hawk you should be proud of that young man for sure. I met him here in Tennessee as well. He is a great young man.
-
Very cool, Josiah. Now I have a role model to to look up to and try to emulate. Mike, I know you and Stacy are very proud parents.
If Josiah's writing skills are anywhere near his hunting skills I know PA would love to publish his story. 8)

Raghorns.. good luck to you and Josiah.. I look forward to seeing some hunt pics on here of your success. Pat... you just need to come out here and go hunting with Josiah.. that way i can have a break... lol thanks Big A... Guar.. Josiah's bow draws about forty five pounds at 26 inch draw... he shoots carbon shafts with heavy brass weight forward inserts.. for better penetration.. the wood shafts he shoots weren't penetrating good enough for elk with the lower poundage bow..

That is awesome! How old is he? you must be extremely proud of him, what a great accomplishment

Now that is pretty darned cool. I can't believe how close he got! What a rush that must have been. I smell the makings of an article. PA, you gotta do it! If you have more pics, please post. I think we'd all like to see more of this young man's successes.
Way to go, Josiah!
