Opening day, fence row, standing corn. 4 minutes before sunrise had 2 does around me.
This one presented a great broadside shot at 8 yards from a short tree stand. 50# osage selfbow, rivercane arrow with stone point (thanks Cipriano!!)
Waited 30 minutes and looked a little for the deer. Had lots of blood but trailed farther than I expected so backed out and went back later with my son and wife when they were done hunting. Found her just 30 yards further than I had trailed her!!
Stone point broke a rib going in and was stopped from coming out by another rib. Tip of point was broke.
What a rush!!!! :)

lowell,
When I saw the topic on this post I was curious if the deer had been taken with a Texas stone point.
What a rush is right amigo! Congratulations!!! That's a great story and an awesome job knapping, hunting and shooting. I enjoyed reading about your hunt and the pictures say it all:) That is one big doe.
De nada amigo. It's this site that made that possible and many many folks have made hunts like yours possible as well. I look forward to more sucess stories. Post pics of the points if you get a chance. I have been the recipient of gracious generousity by folks on this site and am happy to pay it forward:)

Awesome Lowell! Congratulations on a fine kill with a that stone point and fine Osage bow! Hey, I use those same limb covers, love 'em. They work great don't they! Art

Here's a closeup of the point mullet. ;) Cipriano knows the tips well as I got them from him in a trade.
Just hafted another on the same shaft this afternoon....so maybe I'm ready to go again!!! The shaft seemed to fly good so I'm sticking with it!! 8)

Lowell,
Man this is too cool. I keep coming back to this thread. So I gotta know... At what point after the shot did you say, "thank you Cipriano?" ;D
And did you pronounce it correctly???? ::) I sure wouldn't want my name "jacked" up after a moment like that :P

Cip.... I pretty much waited till I saw the deer laying dead......then I said thanks Jack Cipriano!!! ;)
twistedlimbs....I'm tall but I've got kind of a sissy draw, so there was room between point and deer!!! 8)
And thanks all....I hope you all get the chance at a stone kill soon!!

Very Cool! I'm just mounting a stoney I got from Billy and hope to follow your lead! Nice Job!
