Title: Osage and Timber Rattlers Sneak Peek
Post by: Josh on October 07, 2011, 09:12:06 pm
I am building this bow for my boss who also lets me hunt his land.  I left an inch of set and the weird curvy thing in the tip because he said he wanted a snake-y character bow.  I really like the way it is turning out and had to post a few early pics of the process.  Thanks for looking!

Oh and while I was shooting his in I was also practicing with my Osage bow I built last year as this is the one I will be hunting with again this year.  I took a pic of them side by side to compare the difference in color between the two.. I remember last year when my Osage bow was that same electric yellow color.  It has darkened dramatically in a year.

That's lookin real nice Josh, love those skins!

Just seeing this bow is giving me a hankerin' to go make some yellow shavings from my one remaining piece of osage from George.

thanks guys!

@Pearl:  it is 1 3/8ths wide at the fades...  My hunting bow is 1 1/4 wide at the fades I think...

So far I have 4 coats of spray shellac and 2 coats of tru oil and I can still feel the scales... I think it is going to take at least 10 more coats of tru oil with steel wool in between coats, an arrow rest, and a handle wrap and then I will post finished pics, full draw, and stats.  Thanks again guys for all the encouraging words and nice compliments...  :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

So sweet...man that is one gorgeously snaky stave you started with, how cool.  I can see that I will have a major NEED for some Rattler skins like those in my future...boy, those are some perfectly camo'ed critters!

Thanks for sharing the pics & process...
