Well, I'm posting this for my son Caedmon, he just turned five. I'll give a bit of back story. About two months ago my wife had to go visit her sister for a few days and took our four month old with her and I kept our oldest two with me at home. We were shopping one day and I saw in the bargain bin at Walmart, Robin Hood with Errol Flynn. It was $5 so I bought it and we went home and made some popcorn and watched. Caedmon was in awe of the bows on the movie and said "Daddy, I know what I want to be for Halloween." So the Robin Hood adventure began.
This is what Caedmon wanted me to tell you guys in his own words;
"Hi guys. I want to show you my new English Longbow. I made most of it. Daddy helped me on some of it. I want to be Robin Hood for Halloween so I had to make a bow. I really like all your bows and the magazine and maybe you could show me more of them. My daddy makes bows too. I had to do a lot of tilling and lots and lots and alot of sanding. It has horn knocks and deer leather on the handle, and a skunk (Strunk) wrap. I wanted it to look like the bow on the bow book. I love all you guys. Love Caedmon"
Those are his words, and he did do most of the work. All I did was the bandsaw work and the horn knocks and handle. He did all the tillering and sanding, and I might add I am mighty proud!

Here are a few more pictures.
His aunt hand made the outfit.

BRAVO!!! This post just made my day. ;D

Excellent job! The photo of Caedmon tillering, where he is pointing out or marking the stiff spot, is priceless! As my wife, who is a kindergarten teacher, always says, "Kids learn more by doing than by filling out worksheets."
Two thumbs up :)

I knew he was going to make one the last time I was down there. He was showing all the boys how they needed to take more wood off them bows. Makes an uncle proud. Love you Caedmon

Awesome Job Caedmon! That's bow of the month material right there! you got my vote.
Proud Daddy, that's the way to instill a lifelong love of archery in the boy..get him hooked on that great old story.
It was Robin Hood did it for me as well! Errol Flynn did it best IMHO.

Caedmon says "Thank you guys, I am glad you like to look at it." Wish you could have seen his smile as I was reading all the posts.
I thank you all too. What makes me more proud than just the fact that he wanted to build a bow, was his work ethic in doing it. Constantly asking me (yeah as if I have to be asked) to go out with him and work on his bow.
For those of you who have young boys, or girls for that matter, just remember to encourage them in what interests them, not you. I just happen to be lucky and have a boy who likes the same things I do (except he likes soccer).
God Bless,
Mark

:) Great job Caedmon and Mark from one proud Gramma and Mom.

Dang, even kids make better bows than I can. :D
Great job, Caedmon! Looks like you made a fine Robin Hood.

-
well done to that young man
-
perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Whoa! Now THAT is absolutely priceless!!! Certainly a most excellent job Caedmon! The absolute coolest thing about making bows like you just did is that even many, many years later...it feels the same - way cool! That's why we all dig it soooo much...great job young man! Respect, P1.

What would you all think about an article in PA on this build? I've got a lot of pictures, and thought maybe it could spur on some of the younger readers that don't build them to start building them?
What do you all think?
Mark
p.s. And if so how would I go about doing it? Like who to get the info to and such?

Caedmon: Son, that is one of the rootin’-ist tootin’-ist roughest toughest riproarin’-ist English Longbows to ever cross the Rio Gran-de on this side of the Pecos Mountains.
You did some real fine, excellent work there and you've made not only your daddy, but a whole bunch of us "bow guys" proud! My hat's off to you. ;)

Not only would that make a great P.A. article, but I think the pic of him with the Bowyers Bible in his hand is THE cover shot for the issue! *hint*hint* Editors!
-
Love it!
-
Thanks for posting :D this is very cool, especially since he decided to write something here too. He is on his way to becoming a great archer and bowyer if he keeps it up. Congratulations on a very able young man and on a nice bow.
-
Boys and girls who hunt, fish and trap don't mug little old ladies.
-
Caedmon, you might just be the youngest bowyer to ever post a bow here. And what's even more impressive, it's VERY nice bow to boot. Any of us old guys would be proud to post a bow that looks that good. Awesome job.
