Just thought I'd share this one. From wikipedia:
Cutler's Resin is a synthetic resin made of pine pitch, beeswax, and sawdust or carnauba wax used for centuries (to today) to attach knife handles. It is used as both an adhesive and for waterproofing. The word cutler means "one who makes knives". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutler's_resin
Here's a web page with lots of links:

Wow, that's interesting.
-
Eddie, it would have saved us all a lot of trouble if we knew about this stuff sooner. From now on, I'm just going to tell the newbies to look up "cutlers resin" when they ask me about pitch glue.
::)
-
Thanks Patrick. Cool info. Maybe we should add "pitch glue" to wikipedia. ;D
-
Go for it Pat!
-
It sure would have been easier, Patrick. I wonder if anybody still sells it?
-
I think there are some knife makers that sell it. I saw that question on a knife maker forum and no one knew of any commercial outfit that sells the stuff in bulk... but several of those guys make up their own batches and have extra.
-
Hmm,, same as we do. I'd buy bulk.
-
Awesome. Now I have a use for all that brick dust in my basement.
-
find the term "synthetic resin" interesting...
-
used it this year doing some work with bob berg. stuff is amazing. you can buy it but it doesnt take much to make it
-
Fellas,

Thanks Sadie! I've got some of that stuff from them. But that's not cutler's resin. Brewers pitch is used to coat the inside of wooden or leather vessels that hold liquids.

i'll ask berg again. he gave me the link. honestly you should just make it , its easy
