im having a hard time finding anyone who sell hickory backings more than 6ft, and the only boards i have found aren't suitable, any suggestions on where to look?

Noel,
If your bow is going to have a rigid handle, ya can splice the backer in the middle of the grip. Actually I think some of the fellas just make a butt-joint in the center. It's a lot easier to find 2 shorter lengths that are straight grained than a one piece that's way long.

Safer to ship as well.

i wanted to splice 2 together, but it would be dangerous as it's for a 150-170lb warbow ;)

as far as using 2 backing strips, what if i heavily wrapped the handle with something, thread soaked in glue or maybe sinew?
thanks

I often butt splice backings, if you do a good glue up it will be as strong as one piece whatever the poundage.....
