Title: first 2 trapline catches
Post by: youngbowyer on January 20, 2012, 07:30:56 pm: I decided to start small with trapping so I could mess around with different sets and techniques. I bought 3 110 conibear traps a few weeks ago and put them to use. Caught 2 squirrels.

Its good to see you with a 110 conibear in your hand, versus a Nintendo DS. Young man in 24 hours, you just provided food for a day to yourself. Hopefully, you have friends that you can pass this along to. Do you live in Michigan? I have an 11 year old that would love hanging out with you!

Could use skates to make the trip two times a day! I had several different kinds of traps, from spring traps, snares, and box traps. One of the first things I learned is that prey animals such as rabbits, pheasants, squirrels, are not as apt to be concerned with trapping area scents as predators and fur bearers. When trying to catch coons, yotes, and bobcats, I found that scents on traps caused major problems. The feds trap problem wolves here and they boil all their traps and are very careful to not leave any sign or sent in the sets. If you want to catch a wylie old fox you need to practice leaving NO scents. When on my outback jaunts I used to always set snares using the rubber off my slingshot and many times that put meat in the pot. Trapping has its rewards as you already know! Good luck! A/Ho Joe

Yes, i do watch his channel. very cool videos he puts out there. Was able to snare my very first rabbit yesterday after some failed attempts and after weeks of trying. Put some picture wire on a run and snared a rabbit right around his neck. He'll eat good!

Thanks. I think ill focus my channel on bushcraft put I would like to get some primitive skills on camera as well. Might try to film a squirrel hunt this weekend.
