It was coming along pretty well too...

Oh man, sorry to see that.
-
It a hard learning! Ya still have enough left to make a nice point. One thing that can break in the notching process is applying too much pressure holding the point.
-
Opps :o :o
-
I feel your pain fella!
-
that was looking nice to, oh well you will get a nice bird point outta it, Bub
-
I guess what jawge says about bows applies to points as well, 'If you ain't breaking, you ain't making'. Looks good even if it is broke.
-
Bummer! Like i've said before - I still gain a small amount of satisfaction from whatching two peices like that sail through the air :D.
-
LOL................. Welcome to my world...............................Curt
-
I'd chalk it up to a learning curve. Take a little more time abrading the notch and less pressure and then take that one and turn it into a stemmed point.
-
Just one more flake has sure broken a lot of points. I always have a few of those is stock<gg> Mike Smyth
-
Got to hate that.

How do you abrade a notch Mullet?
-
Claude VanOrder will take a small flake and do it. I have a set of real small diamond files.
-
OK, what about some folded sandpaper?
-
Probably work, never tried it. With the diamond files you can set up little or new platforms.
-
OK, I'll have to do some digging and find some of those files then...thanks a ton for answer the 50 question drill! LOL
-
Sorry about that Lee, I do understand. I have a few stemmed points that started that way too.
George
-
Lee, just Google Diamond files and you will find a bunch. A good set is about $20. How do ya'll think Sawfiler sets up those platforms for his beautifull serrations ::) :D.
-
Thanks George...I have had the same issues I see you struggling with from time to time but your latest points are really coming along very nicely!
LOL, Thanks Mullet...shhhh, I won't tell his secret if you won't... >:D
-
I use the tip of my notcher & lightly brush up to remove any fine edges. The one thing I will stress in notching is keep your tip sharp! When mine gets dull I break them!
-
Arg!
I feel Your Pain Lee!
Gotta go sharpen my notching tool... ::)

I hate to see that kinda thing. Too many of my points are shorter and narrower than they started for that same reason.
That's part of what makes a complete point so special. Keep after it & better luck on the next one.
